A few scales and some of Saint Saens' Sonata. Only about 20 minutes but then I heard banging from next door, I could be wrong but I sensed that it was directed at me so I stopped and the banging stopped. I hate living here, there are so many people to annoy.
louise1712
Have done practice of lesson pieces and some 'jumping between notes' practice as suggested by teacher to help with the Lefevre. I really need to work on the higher notes....

sbhoa
Nothing yet.
Not sure if I can get my head round anything resembling practice today but will make the effort and try to do some playing on both instruments.

Hymns at church for Palm Sunday. The processional really didn't work, but people didn't seem to mind rolleyes.gif

I've just bought the Bach wub.gif cello suites arranged for saxophone. Fantastic.

OMG... WOW I WANT THESE!!!!!!!!!!! laugh.gif
Where did you get them from, if you don't mind me asking?

Ebay!! I thought that someone, somewhere, must have arranged them for sax, so I searched Google and it came up with this link
or Boosey's have the book as well: here's the link for that

They use the entire range of the sax - and in the transcription of the sixth suite: 'it is assumed that the player has full control of the upper altissimo register up to C' - that's the C above high F, which I didn't know was possible on the sax and I'm not even going to try ohmy.gif

Warmed up with a bit of Senaille's Allegro and Spiritoso

Thank you biggrin.gif I'm totally in love with the 1st suite! wub.gif
I'm going to learn them, but I'll have to restrain myself until after grade 8 because I'll get totally distracted tongue.gif
(it's not that long to go now - eek!)
That's frightening - I had no idea the sax could go that high! Don't think the neighbours would appreciate me attempting that!

been through my parts for band on Thursday and done some more work on Lefevre Sonata 3. New clari sounding goooooood biggrin.gif

DawnF's impressive scale list shamed me into trying out some scales in thirds , which I usually manage to forget to do (never mind fourths!)... didn't get beyond the first two - had to give up before suicide was the only honourable option ph34r.gif

I did once try Ab three octaves on the oboe (to try and dispel trauma about more reasonable altissimo notes).
Ouch!!!

I've played scales and a Garibaldi study trying to concentrate on breathing and dynamics.Im looking at Mozart, Andante In C ,trying to work out the rhythm. Its in 2/4 time ,with lots of quavers, semi and demi semi and Im really not sure how best to go about working this out.I understand the value of each note but am struggling to understand where the beat falls within the bar!!Dont know If i'm explaining this that well but if anyone has any ideas as to how to clear my "fog"...advice(polite!!!) gratefully received.

Ive just had another session on Trygve Madsens Preludes and Fugues (Like No 1 in Gr8 syllabus). I can probably play 9 or 10 of the 24 preludes but only 4 fugues ! The Preludes are not just more 'approachable' to play, but some are really nice pieces (a few of you will know no 1 by now) also 3, 6, 7, 16, 24 to pick a few. Maybe I will do some next forum event I attend.

You'll probably get to 46 sooner than you currently imagine. That book is probably the most battered in my collection but as it contained the studies I did for every grade I took it was great value for money.

I think it was no 12 for G4, the tarentella at about no 26 for G5 something about 32ish for G6 and no 48 for G8.

Well, as expected, I can report back that all three are way beyond me at the moment! laugh.gif If I had to put them in the order which I would find most difficult, I would say 50 as the most difficult, followed by 46 and then 47 - dare I say that discounting the key signature, this one didn't look quite as challenging as the other two. That said, when I last played from this book, I was stuck firmly at number 31 and that hasn't changed!

I seem to remember that I was struggling with number 23 about a year or so ago (the one with the staccato octave leaps) but am pleased to say that this one was much better when I played it just now.

Clarimoo, it's a lovely book - not sure whether much of it would be too easy for you but you might like to use it for warm ups and certainly the latter pages I think are grade 8 and beyond! ohmy.gif I must look out for 50 Melodious Studies - have to say that I wasn't aware of its existence!
