Played carols at band then the Sondheim, Irish Ayre and Beatles again, all on 2nd clari tonight though as there were only three of us. Still, it gives me more sight-reading practice

Clarinet has had a very quiet couple of days.
Might not do much other than 2 hours of carols tomorrow either.

I've done 2 x 16 minutes of practice (see the efficient practising thread).
My lips are knackered! The first session was to do with harmonics, and the second was trying to make a slow Telemann movement amazingly beautiful and quiet but in tune. Listening back to the recording I did, I think the musicality is coming but was playing much louder than I thought. Plus, need to work on making my long notes exciting and some of the tuning. Not much then

Dug out the Danzi Concertante for flute, clarinet & piano which I am SUPPOSED to be playing with two teaching colleagues on Friday. Couldn't play more than a few bars of the darned thing - not altogether surprising as I hardly play at all these days. To be fair it isn't really my thing - I'm a Baroque-Bag through and through with a healthy dollop of French Romantic nonsense chucked in so this is probably the kind of thing that doesn't even singe the wick let alone light the candle. Poor excuse. I'm just ***p.

I'm sure, too. When you get to a very high level, as you have, you will always feel you'll do more justice to certain types of work : I know I do. On clarinet, it tends to be transcriptions of Baroque works that I'll avoid, but even on flute/recorder, I'm way out of my comfort zone with Baroque music : I much prefer modern stuff, jazzy works, or a nice bit of Brahms/Schumann/similar. This doesn't mean you'll do badly with the Danzi : far from it, you'll probably do it amazingly.
