The title says it all really. Just organised a clarinet duet session for next week with a band colleague. Been in the planning for quite a while but it's actually coming off next week. smile.gif

We're doing the Crusell 3 progressive Duets first.

Firstly concentrating on No 2 in D minor. biggrin.gif

Plans also to tackle the others and the View of the Blues in due course if all goes well. yay.gif

Sounds fun, Dawn! Hope you really enjoy your session next week. smile.gif

That's great news, Dawn - I hope all goes well. I must admit that playing flute duets with The Old Lady, Babybird 2 and my teacher always brings sunshine into my life biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif I love duetting. I have to say that I/we am/are nowhere near as ambitious as you though. We play the easiest music we can get our hands on. The most ambitious piece we have played is the Flower Duet by Delibes but mostly we play easy stuff just to have the pleasure of playing together....... Oh yes, and we do a lot of laughing too. And sometimes we play bits written by ourselves which is fun too. smile.gif

Thank all for your responses. If anyone wants to suggest any duets they've enjoyed then I'll bear them in mind for the future.

We are both playing at a good standard and given that I played these with my teacher when I was 17/18 I should be able to play them now with a little work to refresh the memory - which is what I'm going to do in a minute or 2.

Oh, I'm so excited - I love the sound of 2 clarinets together wub.gif clarinet.gif clarinet.gif wub.gif - beautiful music!!! smile.gif And it's at least 17 years since I've last played clarinet duets with an equal partner woot.gif hurrah.gif

My duet partner is rather of the same mind too judging by the messages we exchanged last night smile.gif

Better go and practise clarinet.gif smile.gif

I've also started playing duets again fairly recently, we've done Crusell no 2 and 3 but I haven't tried number one yet. My duet partner has owns all the music so once we've met again next Thursday, I'll let you know about any pieces that we particularly enjoy

I did smile.gif . It was good thanks. Bit of getting used to one another and stuff as usual with a new partner but we had some fun. The Crussell No2 sounded Gorgeous wub.gif in places and there were places to work at - particularly where we were playing repeating phrases written a bar out of sync with each other. Difficult wacko.gif And moving from triplet rhythms to straight or dotted quavers/semiquavers was a bit wacko.gif too. Also where one is on triplets and one is on quavers it's a bit tricky too. We did the first and middle movement, leaving the Rondo for another time. We also had a bit of a blast through Views of teh Blues No.3. FUN!!! (If not yet entirely accurate biggrin.gif )

We are well matched tone and ability wise I'd say. Though he seems to be of the impression that I am better than him unsure.gif Complimentary skills I'd say smile.gif

Anyway, just thought i'd post an update. It was fun clarinet.gif clarinet.gif

Hoping to make it a regular thing but probably only about once a month.

Quite an interesting site for clarinet duets and ensembles:

http://www.clariperu.org/Biblioteca.html#biblio

Go to 'ensambles'

then to 'BIBLIOTECA VIRTUAL DE CLARIPERU'

If you like the Crusell you might enjoy the Boufil Grand Duo. I've just been doing this one, he also wrote some nice trios if you can find another player

Thanks for the tip smile.gif

Anyone any suggestions for anything jazzy????

We really enjoyed our blast through views of the blues so that's to be worked on.... but if anyone can recommend anything else we'd appreciate it. smile.gif

Well we had another sesh last night clarinet.gif clarinet.gif Practically got the first movement of the Crussel (no 2) nailed. the second movement is almost there too.

And No 3 Views of the Blues is sounding pretty good too (not at crotchet = 100 speed though laugh.gif )

To be honest, I think crotchet=100 is a bit quick, I tend to take it at about crotchet=90 smile.gif

We were definitely over 60, prob more like 70s but in the absence of a metronome it's rather hard to say...
