My daughter changed sax teachers in September because the last one went to Music College. Her new lessons seem to be going well but we do the traditional drop off and pick up and the last two weeks my taciturn husband has taken her while I've worked late.
I always ask about the lesson and usually get some information but not much and I don't push it.
This week my daughter volunteered that the teacher was checking Beth's books for Grade 6 pieces. I took this to mean that the plan is for Beth to do Grade 6 as her next exam.
I emailed her former teacher and said this and it was only when she emailed me back and asked if that meant that Beth's pieces were going to be changed that I realised there might be a problem.
So I asked Beth if she had told the teacher that she has already got 3 Grade 6 pieces in an advanced state of preparation.
Beth confessed that she hadn't.
I see a future in the secret service for her.

laugh.gif Emsoboe had the opposite problem with her new teacher. After taking G7 Sax in the summer she hadn't even thought about G8 pieces. Goes to first lesson with new teacher, plays a Jazz piece and drops herself in it. Teacher is now insisting she plays in Jazz Band. Guess who's going on about G8.....

I think we all know the feeling! Viva la communication!

What did her new teacher say when you told her?

I left a phone message for her today. It is a bit sensitive to me because she is doing exactly what I want her to do. Lots of aural and improvisation and Beth is obviously happy. I really don't care when, or whether, she does the Grade 6 and I don't want to push her into it when things are clearly going extremely well without my input. Hopefully that came across. I will write in her note book this week listing the pieces but saying it is fine with us to change them or not do the exam at all.
