Hi,
I've compiled a repertoire of
bach prelude and fugue Ab
Pathetique (mov1+2 both compulsory)
sarabande from "pour le piano"
Problem is, they say make a programme between 15-20 mins, and mine overuns a little bit by like 10 seconds, (obviously it could be over or under a different time), and thats not including their writing time (how long do they write for after each piece?). I could cut out the bach and make it about 16 mins long.
what do you think?
thanks

Hi exile,
I too am struggling to compile a programme for the DipLCM, as their timings are so restricted. ATCL is 32 -38 minutes, DipABRSM is 35 +/- 10%, but the LCM's 15-20 minutes is problematic.
I doubt 10 seconds over the allocated timing will cause an issue. I'd keep the three pieces as they stand, it's a good, balanced, varied and interesting programme.

I too would leave it as it is.
(just checked the length of my ALCM Dip pieces from 1963, it was more like 26 mins then, but rules change !)

I wouldn't count on 10 seconds not being an issue: You may find an examiner who thinks it is. Get it right up front and you don't have to worry about it. If that means changing something then so be it: it may well be ". . . a good, balanced, varied and interesting programme" but if it doesn't fit the time limit it is inappropriate for the purpose, so my advice would be to change it somehow.

I agree - don't put yourself at a disadvantage right from the start.

If in doubt, you could contact LCM and someone there might be able to put your mind at rest as regards the extra 10 secs. or so - it looks a good programme and it would be a shame to have to change it. However, probably best to check first. Good luck.

Don't forget that on the whole we play faster in exam conditions due to nerves/adrenaline. You will probably come in under the time allowed in that case. I take it you have calculated 30 seconds between each piece and included those in your timings?
