Ah poor Digby, get well soon and keep taking the lemsip.

My favourite food is a sandwich - my own special recipe - corned beef and marmalade on brown bread. Believe me, it is not as disgusting as it sounds, and it really works for me: the rich, salty beef contrasting with the tangy, sweet marmalade...

Pickled eggs. No home should be without them.

I've fallen back in love with the baked-bean "cassoulet". Soooo easy and tasty with rice/bread/mash/whatever, actually.

My recipe, if anyone wants it: chop a packet of bacon into bits and a packet of sausages into halves. Fry onion and garlic in a pan, add bacon and sausage and fry a bit more. Add a tin of tomatoes and some diced carrot and celery, sprinkle in some dried herbs (I like to just use oregano, but parsley is also good) and leave on a low heat for a bit. Add a tin of baked beans and a dollop of ketchup, and some pepper (and salt, depending on how it tastes at that stage), mix around and serve nice and hot.

*is feeling hungry now*

I had a really sad excuse for a chicken caesar salad today. I think the chicken was reconstituted - sort of uniform strips of dubious texture, and the salad was some sort of lettuce, cucumber, red pepper and grated carrot. The dressing tasted of - absolutely nothing, though I could see that there was some there. Hurumph.

As I'm sitting down in about an hour to roast lamb, I think that's my favourite of the moment, though I'll ponder on this some more smile.gif

Thanks for the recipe, clarinetkitteh, that sounds lovely smile.gif

Pickled Gherkins are infinitely superior. Must be sliced up though.
Pickled Jalapenos are nice too smile.gif
Salt & Vinegar Squares/Discos - yum!

A caesar salad should really only have cos lettuce hearts, croutons, anchovies, parmesan shavings and dressing. It shouldn't have cucumber, pepper or carrots wacko.gif

I think it's fairly new to swap the anchovies for chicken but I've always had chicken breast thinly sliced and laid on top. And I like garlic croutons laugh.gif

I'm not sure what the dressing is but I think there's worcester sauce and olive oil in it?

Caramel flavour Snack-a-Jacks are big here just now. Very low in fat and very yummy.

Well, apart from the extremely necessary chocolate, my own home-made damson ice cream........ (yup sorry that sounds rather big-headed, but it was an experiment, but one that came off really well........ wub.gif )

The original recipe was Romaine lettuce- and it didn't have anchovies in it (anchovy flavour came from the use of Worcestireshire sauce.)
But definetly not carrots, pepper, cucumber or for that matter chicken

An old friend of mine used to make home-made strawberry ice-cream in the summer. It was absolutely awesome smile.gif
