Hey,

Thinking about the future and what I could do after my BMus.
Doing an MMus sounds like fun.
Who on the forums have done Masters Degrees after studying music and where did you do it?

I did an MMus, finished last year!

After my BMus, I went to Oxford brookes (my now husband got a job down there so we had to relocate). Having taught in various capacities for 5 years, I realised my poor oboe was lonely, and that I REALLY wanted to do something for ME! So I applied for an MMus (or MA as it was at the time of applying) at Huddersfield, and was offered a place. I did my BMus at Hudds too.

I did performance studies (one third performing, two thirds research) and it was the hardest, most study intense two years of my life! But I loved it. Funding it was a nightmare; it meant working only four days a week, and the course cost over £4000 but to be studying again was more than worth it.

It was hard work balancing school teaching and studying (there was nothing else!) but it's been well worth it, for me, if nothing else. I didn't do it to progress anywhere, or to prove anything. It was a totally selfish act! My husband did an MA (two years before me; it changed to an MMus the year I started) and is now doing his PhD at Hudds too.

Do it!
