I want to buy my friend that is very kindly giving me a lift to my course a present, and what better present than some piano music.
I am definitely going for Mozart Sonata in C Major KV 545 but wanted to get another score too. I don't want a book, just another in its own right. Looking for something similar standard to the Mozart above.
Looking here Grade 5/6ish.
Any ideas.
thanks in advance.

Waltz no 3 in A Minor (Chopin) (about Grade 6)
Jazzy Piano 2 (5 Pieces Gr 6 and 7)
Music for Children (Prokofiev) (Grades 4-6)

Grieg Lyric Pieces op.12 (Arietta is particularly pretty but they're all good fun)
The famous Schubert Moment Musical in f minor (no.3??)
Some Beethoven Bagatelles op.119
Some Chopin Mazurkas (e.g. the g minor op.24 or the a minor op.7 aren't too difficult)
Daquin's Le coucou is also quite fun

Thanks for your replies, I have actually got Farewell to Stromness and when my friend saw it she showed no sign of wanting it - I think it is brilliant.
Anyway, was looking on the net for the Mozart sonata as short on time and not sure I would get to the music shop before we go away. Found that a lot of people that bought K545 also bought Fantasty in Dm KV 397
It is the same type of cover, so looks nice I think for a present, and ordered a copy of the KV 397 for myself too!
Anyone know what the KV 397 is like, whether it is easier/harder/about the same as KV 545?
Many thanks.

They are equally difficult.
The D minor fantasy is great, very beautiful, it starts slow, with arpeggio's, then a slow sections with some surprising fast runs in between, very virtuoso sounding but not really difficult and an allegro section at the end.

I did the Dm fantasy for my grade 6 - I don't think it would be set at that level now, too long for a start.
I think those 2 pieces will make a wonderful present ET.

Fantasty in Dm KV 397
Nice choice! I'm tackling this - it's great, there's so much you can do with it. Those runs have no chance of being played at speed at the moment though

I got the Urtext and was a bit

at first, but it's nice having to make your own mind up!

Oh no, hope thatis what I have ordered too. (I didn't know what that meant) Although I may not mind trying to have a go at improvisation, I don't think my friend is interested in that in the slightest.
Hope she will be happy with it.

Urtext = as close to the original score as possible. There is a lot more scope for your own interpretation re: dynamics etc. It's a bit odd reading it coming from nice, crisply printed modern sheets though!
Enjoy the K545, I have that too and am picking away at the Andante occasionally. Not enough hours in the day etc.

Just noted that my K545 is also Urtext so that should not create a problem.
Spent more time on trying to analyse it today rather than play it. Need to know which is the 1st subject and 2nd. My brain is seriously taking a battering trying to cram in too much info.

I've just finished playing the Fantasy, and it is a great piece- very varied and has lots of sections to work on with very different themes- useful if you don't like some of them!
I'd just got grade 5 with distinction when I started playing it, and I didn't have many technical difficulties.
Hope you enjoy!
