Full Version: Any Tips On First Study In Pozzoli? (harp Query)

Hi folks

I assume this is just one for the harpists, but maybe general tips on getting to grips with sheet would be helpful. I'm doing grade 3 in November, and one of the pieces I've chosen is the first study in the Pozzoli book. However, it just doesn't seem to be coming together.

Presently I'm playing it nice and slow - about 100. I was hoping that a fortnight of this would get me used to the piece, and my tutor wanted it flawless by this evening. It's far from that right now!

The other trick, besides playing it slowly, is trying to memorise the tricky bits, which kind of helps.

Have any of you got any other tips on learning a piece, and have you encountered this study before? How did you conquer it?

Any advice much appreciated! biggrin.gif

When you say you are playing it at 100, I assume you mean minim = 50? So you aren't that far off tempo.

Are your problems note finding or playing them evenly?

Have you been playing it in chords? So each hand plays a three note chord- hands separately and then alternating. You might find dividing it into 4 beat chunks helps- so from the start until the middle of the 3rd bar, then the middle of the 5th etc. I often find it helpful to perfect a small chunk of an exercise if I am having technical problems rather than trying to bring it all to standard at the same time. Playing the notes in all sorts of dotted and other rhythms can help control.
