On Sunday last, J and I shared the concert platform somewhere in Yorkshire, playing a very fine theatre organ.

On previous occasions we were able to go over and have a practise session 10 days or so before the concert date, but not so this time. The owners of the organ have been told that after 30 or so years, they are no longer able to go in and attend to the organ when they want to. There has to be on duty a member of staff for the building in which the organ is installed and that would mean him/her being paid 2x or 3x time. Blame it on Health and Safety.

We were able to go in around mid-day on the day of the concert, which commenced at 2.30pm

However, the concert over and the final announcements to the audience from the organ society chairman, who thanked us both profusely for a "wonderful afternoon of music", and what a marvellous job we had done considering we had only a short time to practise immediately before the concert.

The chairman (to the audience) blamed this on new rules and "HEALTH & EFFICIENCY"

For thems wot don't know "H & E" was a top shelf magazine in "all good newsagents" that officially was a "healthy living magazine" was every schoolboys excuse to get his hands on soft porn!!
