Today is the day Musicman takes his LRSM.

It's 10 years since he started playing piano, and now age 16 he's got to this point and is about to embark on a career in performance piano, starting with a BMus next year.

It's been quite a journey ... 10 years of encouragement, support, endless taxi- driving not to mention a fairly substantial financial outlay. Do you know what ... if I could turn back the clock I wouldn't change a thing smile.gif

The pleasure we have had as a non- musical family to the world he has opened up is endless. When I hear him play now it is hard to actually comprehend that it is my child making such a wonderful sound.

So, on this auspicious day I thought I'd say thankyou to all forumites who have replied to my occasional posts and to the many posters whose pearls of wisdom I have benefited from just by reading the threads.

I am so proud of the dedication Musicman has shown to have reached this point - in particular over the last few years when school and social demands increase.

Pass or fail today (and lets hope it's the former) he couldn't have done more.

now if you will all cross your fingers ................

What a lovely post, Musicman's Mum. I hope your son does brilliantly, but whatever happens today, that he continues to enjoy making music throughout his life.

Please wish him all the best with the BMus, and don't forget to keep us posted on how he's getting on. smile.gif

I would have said "good luck" ... but having seen and heard him play on YouTube I don't think he needs it!

I can't wait for the day to hear my two kids play at a high level. I am proud of them now.

Good luck to your son. You must be very proud. What an achievement in 10 years. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

So.......how did it go? huh.gif

Lovely to read your post, Musicman's mum. I hope it went well - and all the best.
all ears
Best of luck...and you're right...it's great to look back (even though the view from these lower foothills is mostly of an uncrossable ravine! biggrin.gif ).

I remember being slightly aghast when my parents made similar comments...now I feel the same way - visual arts always attracted me more than music, so it's been an interesting discovery, and as for the sinking feeling I had about a future filled with cars, trains, and planes when my first son was born - where did THAT go?!

However, even more, all the best to musicmanz for the future - both the learning and the earning!

Umm, wow - 16 and going for LRSM - that's very impressive - I think I had my grade 5 piano at that stage, after about 7 years of lessons (although I somehow suspect I wasn't quite as dedicated!)
notmusimum
Best wishes to you both! Lovely to hear such a fantastic cuccess story.

Hope Musicman continues to enjoy his playing and career.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and good wishes.

How did it go ?? Who knows - certainly he doesn't!! About 8 weeks to wait I believe.

However I did glean a few things that were interesting.

Quick Study - he felt this was significantly harder than the stated 'grade 7' standard - in fact said " thank goodness I hadn't just been practising grade 7 pieces" (he only saw the bit about gde 7 a few days ago and had been using much harder pieces to practise)

Viva Voce - very searching, lots on compositional techniques and what / who influenced those, nothing particularly straightforward, less precipitated by the programme notes and a big jump up from diploma questions.

Pieces - went 'OK' in teenage non-communicative-speak!

Anyhow .. nothing can be changed now so it's heads down for A level exams which start next week !!
