I'm not really interested in popular music, thats the thing. THe reason I don't want to do the OU course is because its too much written work and not enough practical - plus the courses just aren't flexible enough, For instance I did the OU 12 week musix course in about 3 weeks work, but I was pushed by the group to slow down - I didn't want to slow down, I wanted to complete the course. It would be great if I lived a bit closer to a university but unfortunately I don't.
If was simply a case of doing a degree in music with the OU, I probably would - but the OU doesn't have a music degree, its pretty complicated.
i wouldn't recommend the access-course from what i know then. after all i have heard so far, it is very much tailored to contemporary music.
the rockschool teaching courses are, by description, open to both classical and pop-musicians - you set the course. most of the students i know who took/are taking these diplomas are pop/rock-musicians however.
what about trinity or abrsm-diplomas?
