I was thinking of doing the access to music course instead of doing an open university degree.
I really want to teach, but I prefer teaching adults.

Has anyone done this course, and was it worth it?

Thanks

No, haven't done it - but if you are interested in popular music and you are not looking for a full-time course (or was that exactly why you didn't want to go for the OU?), then Rockschool (basically the popular music department of Trinity) also do teaching courses on two levels. They are abolutely tailored to your preferred teaching style, so mainly going for teaching adults wouldn't be a problem at all. You also get a discount if you are a Musicians' Union member ...

I'm not really interested in popular music, thats the thing. THe reason I don't want to do the OU course is because its too much written work and not enough practical - plus the courses just aren't flexible enough, For instance I did the OU 12 week musix course in about 3 weeks work, but I was pushed by the group to slow down - I didn't want to slow down, I wanted to complete the course. It would be great if I lived a bit closer to a university but unfortunately I don't.

If was simply a case of doing a degree in music with the OU, I probably would - but the OU doesn't have a music degree, its pretty complicated.

i wouldn't recommend the access-course from what i know then. after all i have heard so far, it is very much tailored to contemporary music.
the rockschool teaching courses are, by description, open to both classical and pop-musicians - you set the course. most of the students i know who took/are taking these diplomas are pop/rock-musicians however.

what about trinity or abrsm-diplomas?
