Hi everyone,
I have a wee problem. I play in 2 orchestras and they both have a concert on 19 December. One is a christmas concert with the local church choir whilst the other is a normal concert.
In the regular concert we will be playing Rossini, Stravinisky and dvorak.
The problem is that we have to confirm very soon if we are playing in the regular one and I am not sure whether to mark attending or not attending.
Advice please. Thnaks.

Three questions (in order of importance) to ask yourself:
1) Have you made a firm commitment to either?
2) To which are you more important?
3) Which is more important to you?
A tie splitter:
Which involves the smaller carbon footprint?

Three questions (in order of importance) to ask yourself:
1) Have you made a firm commitment to either?
A: NO
2) To which are you more important?
A: neither, both could survive without me. I am 2nd violin in tyo and 1st violin in LO. However in LO I would play an entire concert not just half.
3) Which is more important to you?
A:Neither. I enjoy TYO and LO equally.
A tie splitter:
Which involves the smaller carbon footprint?
A:My mum would give me a lift to LO concert whilst for TYO concert I would get a train that would be runing regardless. I guess TYO would give less carbon footprint.

In such circumstances, I would suggest using some form of two-state boolean logic decision support hardware device

The youth orchestra. It will be your last year I assume and they will certainly expect you to be there. it will be much easier to use the youth orchestra concert as an excuse for the adult orchestra than it would be to use the adult orchestra concert as an excuse for the youth orchestra.

It is not my final youth orchestra year. I have up to 3 years left including this season becuase it goes up to 21 years of age.
Also how is it easier to use a youth orchestra an excuse for not playing inan adult orchestra? Maybe I am being slightly silly here but I don't get that one!
It may be my brain is not functioning properly as I had to get up very early to go play at the Royal Albert Hall today.

She thought it was your last year with them, in that case it 'would' make sense as you would want to not miss concerts with them as 'it's your last year', but seeing that it's not that it is not a valid excuse anymore so I guess you will have to toss that coin

If all else fails VH, go for the orchestra which told you about their concert first.

In that case it would be LO as they told me in June whilst TYO didn't publish their concert dates until July.

Which one has the best watering hole nearby?
Seriously though....
Which one will you enjoy the most? - not just the music but also the people you are playing with.
Is one of the orchestras short of players - how much difference would it make to each orchestra if you weren't there?

In the TYO christmas concert all we are doing is playing loads of carols, some with the choir and some without. I think I could live without that to be honest.
I think that all things considered I would rather play "proper" music and its not like I will have a second chance to play in the same concert as famous cellist Jamie Walton, we are playing dvorak cello concerto.
Descion finally made: play in LO concert and skip the chance to play christmassy music.
P.s: Neither is short of players both have around 80 members.

Good choice, I would've done the same provided that I'm not absolutely needed in the youth orchestra, I much rather play proper music than xmas stuff.
