Hey guys,
Please don't think I am cheating in anyway here, I'm just looking for some idea's and other peoples opinions here. I have a little project/assignment to do for our community music class where I have to think up idea's for a 45 minute musical workshop for kids with little experience of music, 1st group of 8-10, next group of 10-12 and another group of 8-14.
So far I have a little singing Improvisation, as a kind of confidence booster, like I sing a phrase and get the kids to sing a phrase back...
Introduction to percussion instruments and where they originate from etc...
Assigning each child a very easy instrument and everyone learning a simple song together...
Volume games with a ball, hold the ball up to get louder, bounce it on the floor to get quieter etc...
And I'm a bit ashamed to admit I don't know many other idea's.
Has anyone ever done a music workshop before, or how did music teachers start out, like first lesson or first time in a school? Did anybody here as new teachers get quite nervous the first times they taught?
I'm getting slightly anxious that I want to be a teacher in a few years but have little idea's as yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've done similar things at various times - mainly for beginner and elementary pupils and their friends. Ages roughly 6 to 10, so not quite the same.

One thing we did which they found interesting was to write rhythms to match their names. Some were able to go on to add their addresses, favourite food, 'my friend's name is ... ' etc.
