I guess it depends on which version you'll be playing....
I'd say grade 6 - 7ish (big - ish), but others will disagree no doubt...

Ok, I've had another look at the music for Maple Leaf Rag, and I'll amend my earlier suggestion to the Grade 5- 6 ish range... cracking piece...

Lot of discussion on it here. As Denmark says, it depends which version you have.

I'd like to play this version:

The link doesn't seem quite right as it leads to Bethena Waltz? But the version of Maple Leaf I found by searching the mfiles site is the original. I would say you could play it reasonably at grade 7, but you'd probably need to be above that to do it justice.

Strange. When I type it in manually I go to the right place, but if I click on it, it sends me to the index? Anyway, the piece in your link is the one I referred to above. A grade 6 pianist could have a stab it it and a grade 7 ought to be able to play it competently. Grade 8 to play it well.

Hi, Mole,
I am zl’s mother. She is away for her half term holiday.
You are very right. My daughter just had her G6 piano exam in July. She will take G7 exam in Nov or Dec this winter. She intends to play Golliwog’s Cakewalk and Maple-Leaf-Rag in Music Festival February next year. At this moment she can only play the first half of Maple-Leaf-Rag.
My daughter start learning Piano Nov 2005
Her exam results were:
G1 139 July 06,
G2 146 Dec 06,
G3 not taken,
G4 142 Dec 07,
G5 138 Mar 08,
G5 Musical Theory 94 Mar 09,
G6 143 July 09 (won her the Sheila Mossman Memorial Prize for the highest mark across the board in the Summer period 2009)
Can I email you the recording of her G7 exam pieces? I hope you can give her suggestions to help her improving her playing. She chooses A1, B2. C1. She doesn’t have a big problem with scales, sight-reading and aural. So the pieces are very important to her. I hope she can get another distinction with everyone's help and her hard working!
Thanks a lot!
Lyz
Thanks Denmark as well!
Another question:
Does anyone know what grade is Sonatina in C Major Op.20.No.1 1st movement-Allegro by Kuhlau (original version)? It is very musical piece I think. I suggest my daughter enter this piece to Sonata-Sonatina Class.
