Thank you all for the lovely wishes! (FAB cake Bev!!!)
I started the day by just relaxing (for a change) but by 11am the pull of work was too much so I set about varnishing some picture frames I needed for Friday. Rather absent-mindedly I started to shake the varnish tin.... and it flew out of my hand, hit the floor, popped the lid ... and suddenly there was varnish EVERYWHERE
It took over an hour to clean it all up: I used a birthday card envelope to scoop the worst up and back into the tin, then white spirit, then soap to clean the floor. Luckily the room I work in has a concrete floor and there's now a large v.v.v clean patch!
So I thought I'd go back to varnishing because the tin was half-full now.... only to find it full of dog-hair, mud, dried leaves etc. etc. I HAD swept the floor but the wind was blowing allsorts through the door everytime I opened it
So I had to abandon all that! However, my darling husband went out of his way to buy me a new tin on his way home from work! 
HOWEVER, I had SIX birthday cakes!!! Four cupcakes, a little iced fruitcake from M&S, and a huge fruit and cream gateau!!!! yummmm I had friends round for afternoon tea and pink bubbles with dinner 
Just a pity I've topped the day with horrible insomnia
Back to work tomorrow (well, today really) ..... but lots of left-over gateau that I'm going to share with my parents
