Full Version: Misprints In Syllabus Pieces

Hello everyone, this is my first message on this forum, and I hope I am writing it correctly.

A specific question I have now is this. There is a book 'The Baroque Recorder' with a nice collection of pieces approximately on the level of grade 3. Actually, one of the pieces from this book - Gavotte by Boyce - is in the syllabus of soprano recorder for grade 3. However, there are several misprints in the score of this piece in this book. This is why I have a dilemma. The syllabus of ABRSM explicitly refers to this publication - therefore, should I play the piece as it is printed in the book, with misprints? Or should I play it correctly?

More disturbingly, on the previous page of the same book, there is a nice piece which I cannot play because it contains a note B which is, as you all know, just below what is possible to play on a soprano recorder. Am I the first person in the world who tried to play from this book? Didn't the team preparing the book try to play the scores they have compiled?

In this case I don't think you're required to use the specific listed edition...

Hey AlexV and welcome to the forums

I believe the ABRSM Regulations state that the syllabus only recommends a possible edition to use for exam purposes for each listed piece (in case of difficulty tracking down a copy, I guess), it is not obligatory, so feel free to use other editions if they are more suitable (i.e. free from printing errors tongue.gif). And I dont see why you can't still use that edition, correcting the misprints as you go along.
