I am a physician writing a scientific article on a medical problem related to brass instrument playing. Can anyone provide an estimate for how many brass players (or trumpet players) there are in the US, and tell me the source of the number?

This forum is in the UK, so I doubt that anyone will have this sort of information at their fingertips.

Although considered an international forum, it's based in the USA.

Okay, not exactly brass, but they do have a french horn forum as well and are extremely helpful.
