Someone here was mentioning a guide you can fit to a violin to help you bow straighter, and now I can't remember what it's called to look out for it. And do they do them in all the violin sizes? My daughter's 1/16th violin arrived today (swweeeeeet!) and I think it sounds like a good idea for her until she's more able to follow instructions (she's in speech and language therapy for her inability to process instructions so I think a physical thing is what she needs). Can someone give me the name of it? Thnx.

My daughter's first teacher used a matchstick and a bit of blue-tac - not sure that's what you meant though.

it's called 'bowstraight' I am sure, I have one somewhere in a dusty draw, bought it and never used it! I think the old fashioned 'watch yourself as you play' way is much more effective!

anyway, CLICK HERE for the web-page

mind you , it's quite amazing how you think you are bowing straight and you are actually all over the place, especially when you watch yourself on you-tube, and it looks like your sawing a piece of wood up! so why not go ahead a get one, if it helps.

sorry roserodent, just read your post 'properly' this time (should have paid more attention first time round I know!)
Send the 'bowstraight people' an email highlighting it is for a tiny 1/16 violin (how cute they are, I've seen them at my music shop!) and if it would fit this or if they would cut one up to fit it. And yes, if she's so little (how old is she by the way?) the bowstraight might help her, it's cheap and it's worth a try smile.gif

She's 3. We're a long way off the idea of violin lessons just yet, we are on hey what fun games can we play with this violin. She knows it as a toy she has to be extra specially gentle with. She bows quite well now as it is actually, I think just from copying me, so I shall hold off and see how she goes as we start to make the games a bit more focussed.
