Full Version: Uncomfortable Octave Chords

I'm looking for a bit of advice really. I've got no issues at all playing an octave (can reach a 10th), but I notice that playing octaves with notes in between as well can be quite uncomfortable in my RH. Is there something I should be doing to get used to this?

I'm having a go at learning some of a piece with lots of octave chords and it actually gets a little uncomfortable mid-hand and on my thumb (eg: grace notes 2,4 from C#+E to chord 1,3,5 from D an octave below to D and F)

Are there some sort of exercises I should do to "loosen up" or should I not be attempting to do this kind of stuff at the moment for fear of injury? The funny thing is I can manage the large LH chords OK but the RH is the only uncomfortable one wacko.gif

I think it depends on how long you have felt this discomfort, if you've only noticed this recently, it's most likely temporary, and I'd just go a little easier on it for now, and play these chords with a minimum of pressure.

It's only with this particular piece so I think I'll just go easy on it. Minimum pressure isn't that easy as they jump all over the place! smile.gif I was told by my teacher to find a piece with a load of chords in it for sight reading purposes but seem to have bitten off more than I can chew (or at least than my fingers can handle)! tongue.gif

Perhaps I'll just spend a bit of time resting my fingers on the big chords and try to relax... thanks! I'll see if she has any ideas as well on Monday.
