A 10th in either hand but its more comfortable with the left hand. At a push, I can just about get an 11th in the left hand (extreme front of keys only) but its pretty painful and I wouldn't want to make a habit of it!

Ah. Everyone seems to be using steps.
I can stretch the equivelant of a 16th.
Man, I must have beasty hands. |
Are you joking? Really, I can't imagine a person who can stretch 2 octaves each hand! Imagine how big their fingers will be! They won't be able to play fast scales!
I've discovered that my left hand can stretch a 10th easily but my right hand, still hurts a bit. And the left hand 10th is probably only from G to B, D to F, and other stuff that doesn't have sharps in it. I hope my hands still keep growing until they can stretch an 11th at least. However, I've read that Rudolf Serkin can stretch "only" a major 10th (D to F sharp).
I think that there's something odd with my left thumb. It can bend slightly backward with a bone sticking out if it does. Maybe because of too much stretching. It's not like that with my right thumb.
I can stretch most of the chords in "Autumn Crocus", that Gr 8 piece, and that's why I chose it. Only 1 chord has to be spread: that one near the end of page 2. And the one from A to C sharp, I can barely reach it, but instead of spreading it from down to up I do it up to down quickly, making the impression I could really stretch it.
One question: If we keep stretching long distances often, will it make our hands wider?

Is that like natural selection?! Pianists will evolve longer fingers by passing on their favourable alleles! (I have a biology exam soon...)

C to E no bother with either hand, C-F only just with LH. So why am I trying to play pieces with C# to F that I can't manage withg either?!
