I got fed up with my old rosin, it didn't seem to be remotely sticky any more. I was reading around and there were all sorts of opinions on whether or not it can make any real difference what you choose, and boy am I now in the camp that says think carefully about your rosin choice! I needed new for violin and viola (just cos I didn't want to be caught out with the case with nothing in, and also because I tend to choose slightly different stuff) and I chose a Pirastro Goldflex for the viola, which is brilliant, really strong without any stickiness that I got from the Hindersine dark. For violin I chose a Dominant because I have Dominant strings. I haven't got to this one yet as I put a new string on the viola and have been playing it in, but will let you know what I think. Expensive rosin seems like an indulgence, but how often do you buy the stuff? I have 2 violin bows, so might keep the Goldflex on one for orchestral work and something a bit more violin-ish on the other for ensemble.
Who knew?

I too am in love with the Goldflex!!
I swear you can even tell the difference on my beginner pupils' kit violins!
They say to me " can I borrow some of your special rosin Miss?"

i use Dominant rosin on my fiddle. it seems to work fine; i don't really have enough experience of rosins to say if it's good or bad. i might try some gold rosin if i ever have money to burn... ;-)

You don't need so much of it or so often I've found, so the price might even out as long as you don't drop it or leave it somewhere!
I think mine was about £6

I'd like to try the goldflex but it is quite expensive!

I'm not sure how you 'return' it once it is on the bow?
