I have a girl singing The Mermaid from the Grade two syllabus. She has to do three verses which in turn have a chorus attached to them. The chorus is the same each time.
The last verse is about the ship sinking to the bottom of the sea and we thought it might be good to slow up and finish at the end of the verse which ends with 'and she sank to the bottom of the sea' and miss out singing the chorus for a 3rd time.
Do people think examiners will mind this? They will have heard it twice already!

I would certainly include the final chorus, even if the examiner is humming along by then. To omit it would make for a very abrupt end, as well as unbalancing the structure.

Agreed.

In all honesty, they probably wouldn't notice in the slightest, but then again, I'm not sure I'd risk it...!

Bah! I'm sure they would notice.

Thankyou for all your replies.
I think I will talk to the student, tell her the examiner may not like it and see what she says.
It doesn't feel unbalanced to me when she sings it and ends it there.
She felt it was appropriate as the ship has sunk and who I am to curb her enthusiasm, which can be a rare thing these days and also, as you said dcb, it's her interpretation of the song and shouldn't that be encouraged?
