I bought this for £5.60 but am shocked to find what these people are asking for it...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/0...p;condition=new

Surely no-one in their right mind would pay that for it!!!?? ohmy.gif

Considering that I bought a book of Chopin's complete Nocturnes for 50p ...

and that you can download it for free from the Pettrucci on-line library.

They aren't going to have many customers.

Particularly when it lists the RRP of £2.60 immediately above their price of £135. laugh.gif wacko.gif

Perhaps it's a mistake? unsure.gif That price can't be justified otherwise!

My thoughts too. Is it meant to be £1.35???

I often see things where there is more than one ISBN for the same item and one is priced at about £7.50 new and £6 used, the other is something random like £23.50. It's not a hardback version or anything. Odd. I can't understand some of the stuff, though, I am trying to sell a book and because you cannot specify postage costs you have to factor in to the selling price that it costs £6.80 to post. Some people are selling this same book for £4.99 so they are going to pay someone to haul it away!

No this is becoming quite a common thing, particularly when something is quite difficult to get hold of. These chancers hope that someone with more money than sense is prepared to pay a stupidly high premium in return for convenience smile.gif

As for things being downloadable, I like having books, as printouts just end up tatty and torn. smile.gif

So do my most-used music scores unfortunately.

I've more or less stopped buying from Amazon after ordering a couple of things that never turned up.

Unlike ebay, it doesn't cost anything to list an item on amazon. The result is that if you are a seller you don't have to pay anything to amazon until you have a buyer; hence you can afford to wait until a big enough sucker comes along.

Having said that I've sold several items on amazon, though never for more than I bought them for. Rare CDs are easy to shift if you price them so that they are the cheapest. However I've had no success selling sheetmusic, despite it being like new and much cheaper than on musicroom.

Maybe... I mean, that can't be the real price... huh.gif

I find that this happens a lot on imported sheet music that's hard to find.

There will be a few reasonably priced ones, but a few at a ridiculous price, obviously in the hope that once the cheaper ones have sold, someone will be desperate/silly enough to pay the inflated price. wacko.gif

If you have genuinely copyright-free scores you can do what you like with them. Although you can get them bound at printworks places like those that bind dissertations for students, I often find it cheaper to upload them to the self-publishing websites and order myself a copy. It comes fully bound in a book in a style of your choice with a proper cover on it. If you have a load of tatty teaching materials that are of your own copyright then this is a useful way of getting those sorted into a proper volume too.

While we're discussing this... I have quite a few music books that are a bit of a pain to keep open and flat on my teacher's piano. If I took them to one of these print/binding places, would they be able to pull them apart and ring-bind them for me? unsure.gif

I think they can; It's been discussed on here before, although I can't remember who it was - possibly DCMBarton.

RR - what are these self publishing websites you speak of? I'm quite intrigued!

Yes, and the whole point of print-outs is that when they become tatty and torn you can simply print out a new copy !

For anyone wanting Chopin books I highly recommend the Dover publications Mikuli Edition. They're really good and are nicely designed! smile.gif
