Just received the Reeds Direct catalogue and see the are selling reed cutters. Has anybody got/used one? If so are they worthwhile ? It claims it will repay the cost of itself in reeds many times over.

I've got one, but use it so, so rarely it's untrue. I'm not sure it's really worth your while investing in one, to be honest.

It may be useful if you've damaged the very tip or need to strengthen the reed slightly, but it seems a bit gimmicky to me.
Rather like the reed rush. I simply use a selection of fine grade sandpaper from Ebay that will last for the next ten years.
With this and a sharp knife, I've never needed anything else for adjusting reeds.
Though of course, the search for the 'perfect reed' still continues!

good idea!
I got mine years ago, while I was at university : and have barely used it since. It must be about 15/16 years old now, and almost in 'as new' condition!

I've also got a reed cutter that has hardly ever been used and is in fact starting to rust although it is over 30 years old, I did use it more when younger and more careless with my reeds
