Full Version: Tuning Rings (to Fit In Clarinet Barrel)

Like david 123 and a number of others I've been browsing the reeds direct catalogue and came accross these (amongst other things) Apparently they fit in the barrel and reduce flatness on throat notes when the barrel is pulled. Considering I have to pull out quite a bit in band I wondered about getting some.... What do you reckon????

They also (to me) seemed to affect tuning elsewhere adversely, I don't think I'd bother buying...

I'd be inclined to just put right hand fingers down to improve the tuning of the throat notes Dawn smile.gif

Thanks smile.gif Not such a huge issue but am experimenting with best tuning when I need to pull out a lot I try to split it by pulling out between top and bottom joint too. Also know people who do it at the bell... Find if pulled out between the 2 large sections my long Bb is not always sounding properly. But too much at barrel results in flat notes.

I'd be inclined to look at pulling out between bell and bottom joint, rather than between the two joints, as you quite correctly say, you risk doing things to your long Bb (amongst other things) if you pull out between the two joints.
