Would you be interested in a one day performance workshop for instrumentalists and singers, with the services of a professional theatre coach in the morning followed by an informal concert in the afternoon?

I'm looking at either Saturday 29 May (Bank Holiday weekend) or Saturday 5 June 2010, from 10.30 a.m. to 5 pm. Venue would be the Riverside Arts Centre, Sunbury on Thames, which has excellent facilities (including a new Yamaha grand piano), with parking a few minutes' walk away and well served by public transport. Cost would be around £20 for the day.

I need to establish whether there would be enough interest before making definite bookings (though I can't confirm the date until 6 months before the event as the regular groups that use the hall have priority bookings until then).

Please respond if you are interested!

The information amd application form are here

Interested, but I'm abroad on 5th June, so wouldn't be able to make it.

Up for it if on the 29th May.

Will bring something that isn't a clarinet...
sbhoa
I would be interested.

I'd be interested too biggrin.gif

......as long as no-one were intending to make me sing wink.gif.

Thank you for responses so far.

Whether I bring the 'cello will largely depend on how far I've got with it by late May. If I can cope at around grade 1 sort of level by then, it'll probably be 'cello I'll use, otherwise, I'll probably either go for saxophone, flute or recorder. smile.gif

I played my cello at the very first Forums Concert in Chertsey when I had been playing for five months. I was definitely pre-grade 1 standard! Katyjay will confirm this. So, no excuses Barry!

I hadn't picked up on the fact that you were learning the Cello Barry, I long to have a go at the cello, such a beautiful instrument. When did you start to learn?

I have booked the hall for Saturday 29 May. I have not yet contacted the theatre coach as I need to know how much response there is likely to be. The cost will be £20 per head to cover the cost of the theatre coach and hire of hall and piano and I need to get the maximum number of 20 participants in order to cover the costs. I feel that this is quite expensive and wonder if there will be enough interest at this price. I could as an alternative keep the date and have a forums concert or orchestral day (Barry ...?)instead. What do people think?
Solari
Hrm I may be interested, as long as there's no obligation to sing, like anacrusis says!

£20 per head sounds very reasonable for a performance coaching day.

Really looking forward to it.

I would be very interested in coming for a group session with a performance coach, not sure what it would entail but sounds good smile.gif

I'm still interested and that date give me chance to get cheap train tickets.

Thanks for the replies. I will go ahead and contact the theatre coach.

Cool : catch me sometime during the day on Saturday, and I'll have a filled out form and a nice purple coloured picture of the Queen to give to you! smile.gif

Having looked at the travel options, the Feltham option, not only does it look more convenient, but you can use pay-as-you-go Oyster or a one day travelcard on the entire route, including the 235 bus, making it cheaper too. Something to bear in mind for us public transport users. smile.gif

I will check that event out. I don't sing any more since I left school but would like to join a choir in the future.

I remember doing a carol concert in 2008 and ws given the part of singing the 4 2 line solo verses, which were in Latin. My nerves got the better of me when I saw 200 people in front of me and I didn't do a particularly good job.

When I did a school music competiton on violin, no problems what so ever, apart from judges comments!

Well, if you can find a song you'd like to try VH, you'd be most welcome to come along. Actually, if you want to bring another instrument along, you'd be equally welcome!

Haven't decided what to bring yet. Not clarinet. Probably flute or saxophone.smile.gif

It would be helpful if you would list on the back of your application form or pm me if you wish.

I will check at orchestra the date for a recording we are doing as well as the rehearsal date for that recording to make sure there are no clashes and if not then I will fill in an application form and cheque and send it to you in the next few days.

I can only bring my violin because I only play 1 instrument, I gave up recorder many years ago as I found it boring.

Just wondering how near you are to the limit of 20 participants? Sounds as though it would be straightforward to get to from Heathrow (yes?) and flights aren't prohibitively expensive (yet).

Yes, still space for you. You have been on the 555 before - you just stay on it longer, or get off where you did before and I will take you the rest of the way if times work out right. Hope to see you Andrea.
