I have recently joined AOTOS and I was just wondering if anyone else on this Forum was a member and what were thoughts on it.

Yes, I am. I like the magazines they send, which are very informative and the seminars are worth going to. Unfortunately they are not always within a reasonable distance (I mean within say 125 miles), and can often be when I have a full teaching day.

Yes, I am, though like Ann, the events are quite a distance. I too find the magazine interesting (mind you, I don't remember having one for ages). If I were being really rude blush.gif I get the impression is that a large number of the core membership is somewhat 'old school' - ultimately, I guess there's nothing wrong with that, though a bit like the EPTA and ISM, I wish they'd think about doing some things specifically aimed at encouraging and supporting younger teachers.

Agree - one reason for me why I joined neither of them wink.gif

They do a singing teachers course. It has young teachers who are just starting, as well as more established ones. I have been a volunteer pupil there and had the "benefit" of many opinions blush.gif .

True - although there's nothing like experienced people to learn from wink.gif
Plus - if no young people join, there's no point in having a programme to support them tongue.gif

Seriously - there is a week long teachers' course in the Summer and regular conferences with invited specialists giving lectures, and plenty of opportunity for audience participation and question. So I do believe that there is support for all - if one bothers to take it up!

I attended the Summer school and thought it was fantastic though there is always room for improvement on these types of things. The speakers were really good and the masterclasses. There was a huge mix of people there, young, old, new to teaching and more established teachers. I was a bit apprehensive about going as I am always lacking in confident in my ability as a teacher but I came away bursting with confidence, but I got lucky with my master teacher.
I am attending the conference on Sunday. Surely as teachers we can all do with continued development. New things are always happening, for example we watched an mri scan of a girl singing so you could see everything at work, it was fasctinating and also gives a new insight into how the voice works.
