Idea shamelessly pinched from the Teacher's forum.

Lessons: Something clean and comfortable that I can move about in.

Exams: Depends if they are marking presentation. If they are, something smart, clean and comfortable that I can move about in. If not, something clean and comfortable that I can move about in.

Actually my teaching attire is also something clean and comfortable that I can move about in.

Lessons: Whatever I'd be wearing normally. Exams: ditto.
FluteDiva!!
Lessons - normally either school uniform or jeans depending on whether it's violin (in school) or flute (private teacher).
Exams - well for my grade 8 I wore a "nice" (ie my mother picked it!) skirt and a long-sleeved top. I would have been happy to have worn jeans but my mum said that I would feel like performing more if I made an effort to look smart.

My lessons were originally on a Friday after work - so I'd turn up in Friday work clothes - jeans, walking sandals, t-shirt.
Now we've moved to Thursdays, so I turn up in Mon-Thur work clothes - ankle length skirt, top, slighly more feminine sandals smile.gif

Haven't had exams, if it were a work day then it would just be work clothes, if it were a not-work day then probably jeans.

Not very much when the teacher was male. I always seemed to get longer lessons that way.. wink.gif

I'm sorry but that would not have gone down too well with me as a teacher. I expected my students to be decently dressed or I would send them home. I had and have still little time for scantily clad students. It might be ok for clubbing but not for music lessons.

You never taught me honey!! wink.gif

If I had your standard of playing and of practice would have impressed me so much more than unsuitable dress.

For lessons I just wear casual clothes. Its usually jeans and a shirt or similar.

If I were taking an exam it is usually appropriate to wear a suit as it is college hours. If it were a music exam I would probably just wear smart casual.

If it is an evening lesson after college I am probably still wearing my college clothes, i.e a suit but I tend to take the tie and jacket off in the evenings as I am more comfortable that way.

blink.gif Your college makes you wear suits? ohmy.gif

I have my lessons directly from work, so whatever I've worn to work would be normal - on Fridays, jeans, and other days trousers and a top. If/when I take an exam, it'd be the same thing I guess. Certainly wouldn't dress up special.

It doesn't have to be a suit, a tie and jacket would be fine, its just that suits are the most readily available suitable thing to wear.

They want to make it as close to the working world as possible, where we would have to be there 9 to 5, dress smartly and get few holidays. thus we do not get half term.

Same. Clarinet and bassoon lessons are in school, so it's obviously uniform. Which thankfully is not a suit laugh.gif, and skirts are not compulsory! Piano lessons are straight after school so are also usually in uniform.

Exams - if during school hours, then uniform. I think only one of my exams hasn't been during the school day - then, I wore usual clothes, jeans and a polo shirt.

The first thing my husband does when he joins a new company is to get the dress code changed asap to smart casual. He hates wearing a shirt and tie (unless he's meeting a client) and so would I. Neither does he have to be there 9 to 5. He often stays late but can leave early or be in late if he needs to, in common with many people in offices I should think. Maybe the world of work has changed since your teachers were in it (if they ever were!).

Lederhosen.. laugh.gif

Nah, just jeans, shirt, and whatever shoes are comfy wink.gif
eldatom
For lessons I wear something very comfortable and layers so that I can whip my cardigan off if the lesson is hard going. Mostly I have the lessons in my own home now and I am ashamed to say that I wear my slippers. lol

For exams, again comfortable loose clothing that I can move about it, but unfortunately I have to wear shoes on my feet.

For clarinet/sax lessons I wear school uniform because they're at school.

Piano lessons, casual clothes I would wear around the house (jeans and t-shirt/hoodie), and (like eldatom) slippers, with furry tigers on the top! blush.gif laugh.gif They growl if you squeeze the tigers, and I occasionally accidentally set them off in the middle of a lesson! laugh.gif

For exams I wear uniform if the exam's at school or if I'm taken out of school time to do it. If not, I wear casual clothes, but slightly smarter clothes (ie. not my scruffiest jeans).

It might sound appropriate if you are playing Saint Saens! It'd add another animal to the collection! rofl.gif

I did all my grades whilst being a student, so I usually just nipped out of school with my dad and did my exams in uniform. Had my lessons in uniform too. However there was just one time where I did an exam in jeans and a t-shirt - comfort is important, I think! smile.gif
violin123
Lessons: my normal clothes, usually a short sleeved t-shirt (my teacher needs to see my arm for violin)
Exams: School uniform (but I take my tie off) or plain black t-shirt and black trousers.
flutie
i would wear whatever to lessons as im in school so its whatever i wear that day
so as my exams are normally in school time ill be wearing jeans and a clean nice top and jumper nothing special they don't care what your wearing i shouldn't think as long as you look presentable
barry-clari
Unless there were specific rules on presentation, I'll wear just comfortable clothes for both lessons and exams.

For lessons, I dont worry at all, just where T shirt and trousers , (last week I wore my Jacket inside out, I noticed at the end of the lesson, I said to teacher "did you notice this" he replied "yes, but I didnt want to say anything" very embarrassing.

Ive not had exam yet, but when the time comes I will where something "tidy" , not necessarily a suit, but maybe buttoned T shirt or short sleeved shirt with black trousers.

Im sure there are examiners who are on this site, who could give some advice.

For the Exams:-
Used to go straight to/from the office, so it would be the usual work "costume":-

Bermuda Shorts
Knee Socks
Shirt and Tie
Grown up shoes

Couldn't play in my Blazer so used to leave that behind in the office!!!

For lessons:-
out of work hours, so garb would usually be:-

Manchester United shorts
"Rooney" Shirt
Nike top if chilly!!!!
Crocs

All the best from us stuck out in the Colonies - Queen's visit went very well.

Kind regards,
Nigel
