I am entering this piano piece [Rondo in D Major, K. 485 (Mozart)] into a 'Classical Grades 6 -7' category - but i'm not sure it is above grade 6 standard. (Original version). The entry deadline is the 10th November. Can anyone help me?

Oh yes.

If you can do justice to that piece then you are well beyond Grades 6-7. It may look and sound easy. At least, it sounds easy when it is played well.

Here is an especially good rendition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rnc5OT4qTw...feature=related

If you are entering this into a music festival class the simplest thing is to check with the organiser. They are usually very helpful.

Thanks a lot for both of your advice. I sent an email, attaching the link to the organiser of the festival.

This is not a difficult piece and certainly not higher than Grade 7. The A Minor Rondo is quite another kettle of fish and I think the only Mozart that has been in a Licentiate syllabus.

I guess that depends on what standard of performance you'd be satisfied with. After all it is not really the PIECE that is grade 6, grade 7, or whatever, it is the pianist.

You can (and probably should - they are marvellous music) make a decent stab at most of Mozart's piano compositions at Grade 5 or Grade 6, but to perform them with credit is a different matter. Lots of them are mostly straightforward, but unfortunately (so far as performing them goes)with just a handful of tricky bars that demand much higher levels of dexterity.
