I have a pupil due to sit the piano prep exam in a couple of weeks time. This is the first pupil i've entered for the prep exam. Does the pupil have to provide the examiner with a copy of the music or do they just have to show the examiner what it is they have chosen to play? Thanks. piano.gif

I don't think they need to provide a copy for the examiner - mine have never done that, anyway. Good luck to your pupil! Mine always enjoy the Prep Test experience. smile.gif

I used to use the Prep Test but haven't done so recently. When I did the pupils never took in a second copy.
One examiner came and fetched the children herself, chatting to them as she took them back to the examination room and if I remember rightly I think she stood or sat by them while they played. It was all very informal.

Good luck - I'm sure your pupils will enjoy the experience.

I've never sent a copy of the piece with the children to their Prep Test and no complaints so far. The Prep Test book would state if you needed to provide a copy for the examiner.

Sorry to slightly hijack this thread but it is sort of relevant!

I've just acquired a pupil who's moved into the area. She's got a prep test book but was told by her previous teacher that she would be doing another piece called "Pear Tree" which isn't in the book! Does anyone (and yes, I know that it's a long shot!) know where I can find this piece? wacko.gif

Thanks all!

Mmm - a bit of a long shot by way of reply!
there is a piece called
'the Pear Tree is laden with fruit'
by (I think, from memory) William Alwyn. It was one of the grade 1 pieces a few years back - though is quite straightforward. I'll see if I can locate a bit more - although I'm sure there are other Pear Tree pieces!

(edit) it's in here ...

although of course this only helps if you can somehow find out if it's the right one!

Hi Maggie

Many thanks for that! I don't think the child actually knows the piece - but seemed quite perturbed that I didn't know which piece she meant! I tried to explain that there would be lots of pieces called the Pear Tree but that just didn't wash!

I shall go and look at the book you've suggested before her next lesson.

Cheers

If she doesn't know the piece, then presumably she hasn't worked on it - leaving you free to try out any Prep Test-type pieces you both like. smile.gif

Yes, a piece calle "The Pear Tree is Laden with Fruit" by Willam Alwyn appears in "Original Piano Pieces " Book 1 published by the Board. I actually think it's rather difficult for the Prep Test standard but the book is a nice one and has other pieces which range from Prep Test standard to Grade 1.
