Full Version: Embarassing/unusual Cds In Your Collection

I thought I'd start a confession thread.

You know those CDs/Albums/Songs in your collection that you know friends would laugh about because they are either ridiculous, cringeworthy now, or seemingly out of character for you? I thought it'd be interesting to list some in a thread for everyone to chuckle at (or even give reassurance over!) tongue.gif

I'll kick off..

I have dozens of eyebrow-raising ones but a few are:

Several Lisa Stansfield albums (I just really like her older stuff like Change, Someday etc) tongue.gif
M-People - Fresco (I'm not keen on them at all anymore)
Several "Bonkers" albums (what the h*ll was I thinking!)

*ducks to avoid rotten tomatoes and cabbages*

EDIT: Grrr, wrong spelling in title!

Steps' first album unsure.gif
fsharpminor
I have a CD of very rude and bawdy songs by Purcell. It was free with a CD magazine now defunct, it is full of references to windy noises of both types, and with a few examples !
maggiemay
I have an archive recording of 'Round the Horne' which was broadcast on bbc radio in the middle of last century.

Also an LP of songs by 'Rambling Syd Rumpo' (aka Kenneth Williams) from the same show. Anyone who's heard any of these will know how thinly veiled the double-entendre is ...

(possibly not quite what you were thinking of, Solari?!)

Actually, if it counts, I have "inherited" some Derek & Clive LPs... unsure.gif

Er... Wanabee single by the Spice Girls!!! blush.gif

I would say The Muppet Album but I'm not ashamed of that one! biggrin.gif

When I was at school I bought the Mr. Blobby Christmas single... I'm trying to work out whether I was just plain stupid or whether I was cleverly trying to skew the charts with my novelty purchase... rolleyes.gif

Please tell me you don't have Aqua's "Barbie Girl" in your collection! biggrin.gif

Actually some outrageously dolled up girl was in TGI's the other week and walked past our table... Cue my girl mates all singing "Barbie Girl" and emphasising the "Life in PLASTIC" bit.. I wanted to hide underneath the table. They really don't care! ohmy.gif

Cartoons! ph34r.gif *reminisces about long holiday journeys across the UK singing it from an audio cassette* laugh.gif

(The categories on my music player are really weird... it says that "Stevie Wonder" is in the genre "Acid Punk" wacko.gif )

The Green Day version of the Simpsons theme was good too! biggrin.gif
Mad Tom
But some of this stuff is good. Nothing to be embarrassed about.

Lisa Stansfield can really sing (and so can those girls in Steps), and Wannabe and Barbie Girl are brilliantly constructed (and executed) pop songs - up there with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" , and similar gems.

Even Michael Ball can sing - very, very well - it is just a shame that he chooses to sing mostly drivel.

Now will anyone own up to having a Richard Clayderman or Bobby Crush LP ?

Are you kidding?! It scared the living daylights out of me! It wasn't so much the images... I have this mild phobia of screams. They creep me out. When I'm watching a scary film I have to cover my ears.

Anyway, a little off topic! rolleyes.gif

No, not really, but there is a threshold that was crossed with that song and those similar to it. Romantic songs are fine if they are well written, but when it's just the same old recycled, saccharine garbage with (as I said once before) all the poetic depth of a lukewarm turd, I just can't stand them! smile.gif

I found root canal treatment immensely more entertaining, in all honesty! tongue.gif A *good* scary film to me is something like Event Horizon or Alien. Or if you just want silly and entertaining "scary", the newer version of House on Haunted Hill is good smile.gif

WHY do people think that Alien is scary?! Don't get me wrong, I love Alien, but it isn't scary. At all. It's the psychologically scary movies that scare me, but I love stuff like Alien and Resident Evil. I could watch those over and over again - and I do laugh.gif

I suppose different things work for different people smile.gif I actually think some games these days are far scarier than any films. I remember a few years back playing Doom 3 and nearly having a heart attack... ohmy.gif

The theme tune to 'Rainbow', remixed in two different ways...

I don't know if you're thinking of the same 'Rainbow' as me, but it's worth a try anyway - is it the one where the boy and his friends somehow get inside a rainbow and one of them steals the gold from inside it, making the world an awful place to live in? And then the kid somehow ends up in the jungle with his dog?

I've just realised how strange that storyline is... huh.gif
