Does anybody know why for the LRSM, as a substitute for the DipABRSM pre-requisite, the Associated Board ask for the LTCL rather than the ATCL. I am surprised because in terms of NVQ level, the ATCL is equivalent to the DipABRSM (Level 4). And looking at the two repertoire lists, they appear of equal difficulty to me. But it seems that the Associated Board refuse to recognise the ATCL as equivalent status to DipABRSM, whereas Trinity are prepared to accept LRSM as equivalent to LTCL!

The reason for my question is that I was hoping to do ATCL followed by LRSM, but this scuppers my plan.

This is a complete mystery to me too and I have queried it with the Board before, as they wouldn't accept my CertGSMD(T) (equivalent of the ATCL) as a pre-requisite for the LRSM in Flute Teaching, even though they are the same level as the DipABRSM. Their argument was that the content wasn't of the correct level - they didn't actually know what the content was, but they were convinced.

Obviously it is because the DipABRSM is a higher quality award than the Associate level from other boards [whatever their NVQ classification might be ] blink.gif huh.gif rolleyes.gif wacko.gif unsure.gif wink.gif

MT (also slightly aggrieved that ALCM [level 5!] is not accepted as a pre-req for LRSM either mad.gif )

This question has been asked many times before. Do a quick search of the Diploma Forum for other people's opinions on it.

They're convinced of a lot of things without really looking at facts or arguments. Maybe they have a computerised response to this and other questions - like one of those robots on Star Trek or Red Dwarf, and their artificial intelligence can't cope with a question outside their flow chart range.

Why not just do LTCL fllowed by FTCL and then nobody can argue with where you are on the scale. And AB loses the income.

Partly because I think the LRSM syllabus is better, and it is more like the LGSMD(T) would have been if they hadn't withdrawn it just after I did my Cert. Maybe I should look at the LTCL again - they keep sending me letters telling me that my CertGSMD(T) is the required pre-requisite and I can gain direct entry.
