Hi,

Could someone please give me the general gist of whether I should be using the RH to play some or all of the notes that come up from the Bass staff? And are there any oddities I should watch out for? I don't want to discuss it with my teacher as I already dismissed doing Grade 5 any time soon but I wanted to try some of the pieces out and I really like this one smile.gif If I'm going to learn it, I'd rather not learn it wrong then have to do it again.. blush.gif

Eg: Bar 1..

LH: 2+4 1 then... do I bring over 2 (seems a ridiculous thing to do) or do I use my RH thumb to hit the G? I'm just trying to understand the way the triplets are written and whether that signifies whether you should use the RH or whether it's written that way to avoid a load of ledger lines? It seems to make sense to use the RH thumb from what I can see.

Also does the 4-5 fingering mark mean to swap fingers over? it seems to make sense to allow for the thumb to hit the lower notes?

Thanks, forum oracles smile.gif

Yes, you use your right hand thumb for G

Have a look here;

(Watch out bar2, make sure you play F# in right hand with finger 4 and then change to finger 5 - he does not do this)

Ah thanks, I just added another question which you just answered... the finger change makes perfect sense now then smile.gif

Really nice piece I think smile.gif

I can get through it slowly at sight and I'm ~Grade 3 so I'm wondering where the catch is for Grade 5? What are they looking for if you want top marks? wacko.gif

It is a lovely piece, this is one of my pieces that I have chosen for my Grade 5. I don't think there is a catch it being Grade 5, but you have the pedal and the triplets and your bars with the dotted quavers and semi quavers. I think making sure that you do everything just right and keeping it legato.

Bar 14 is quite hard until you get the hang of it, as you have to switch fingers whilst you are holding. (I think it is there anyway) I haven't played this for a few weeks as I have put the Grade 5 pieces away for a while.

It can be a tricky one to voice.
The melody needs to sing out above the accompaniment.
Keeping a good even tone in the accompaniment when it's shared between hands can be a challenge too.
And while you are sorting those out you need good phrase shaping.

agree.gif I didn't get a very good mark for this in my grade 5, probably because I didn't play it as sbhoa recommends. Plus, my pedalling wasn't very good.
