Anyone know of any good books that have studies in for approx Grade 3-4?

Need something that incorporates position changes as well as different bowing techniques.

My violin student is struggling a bit with putting some "oomph" into her pieces. Her notes are fine - and she does put dynamics in - but her bowing is all a bit "samey" (ie using the middle part of her bow and not much else, despite much encouragement and demonstration of alternatives that make the music sound more "musical")

Just wondered if anyone knew of any good books with studies in?

Mary Cohen is your answer...

For that sort of level, I reckon you're between Superstudies Book 2, and Technique Takes Off.

All her studies are quite nice sounding pieces in their own right, but they pack a lot of technique into them - even if she does sometimes seem to have a bit of a harmonic addiction!

Hi,

I use the Kinsey studies books as they're really good for bowing techniques. I think for Grade 3-4 you'd probably need either book one or two (there's a preliminary book as well which is great for beginners once you've introduced the bow). Sorry to be a little vague - my copies are downstairs and I wanted to add my reply before making dinner, sorting the kids and getting down to some teaching! blink.gif Will edit this later to let you know which I think would be better.

Cheers
