Some of you know I've been looking to organise a Players for Pleasure event in Tamworth in the West Midlands, which is at the confluence both of the motorway and the railway network systems. We could have a "typical" concert similar to Leeds, in a location like a school hall, but I'm inclined to raise the stakes a bit
In Tamworth there's a concert hall called the Assembly Rooms. It has a baby grand (don't know what make yet), obviously a stage, and is laid out as a proper concert hall (plush seats etc). We can hire the hall for 8 hours, so we could rehearse in the morning and perform in the afternoon in the normal way. However, I have in mind that in the afternoon, we could leave the doors of the hall open so that if any members of the public wanted to wander in and listen to us, they would be welcome to do so. We don't normally have members of the public at these concerts, but I feel from what I've seen at the Leeds concerts, Dyrham Park and Dunster Castle, that many people are now ready to perform to members of the public (and some already do this), as long as it's on a casual basis and without unrealistic expectations being raised as to the standard of performance
Depending on the level of interest, the cost per performer is likely to be between £15-£20. Date-wise, although I had provisionally thought March, the Assembly Rooms couldn't fit us in on a Saturday until August - the 14th, 21st or 28th.
I know this might seem a long way off, but I will have to book the Assembly Rooms fairly quickly if we are to secure it.
Are we ready - or will we be ready by next August - to perform to casual members of the public???
