QUOTE(saxophile @ Nov 23 2009, 08:58 PM) *

Fellow sax-ensemble players: slight hitch, in that the music I had ordered turns out to have been out of stock, but the e-music shop promises they can get it from the publishers fairly quickly. If it doesn't show up soon I'll try and get to my nearest bricks-and-mortar music emporium to get something else, since I'll almost certainly need time to practise, even if the rest of you won't wink.gif However, I can't really focus on anything beyond my exam (on Saturday - yikes - ph34r.gif ) at present....

Don't worry but as much time to look at it as possible would be good as it all gets a bit hectic nearer Christmas.

I have to dust off my tenor sax first!!! And maybe need to purchase a new reed or two... unsure.gif smile.gif

Noted! I will do my best to sort it asap (I am quite cross with the shop, since they showed the item as already being on order and due in stock shortly, which was the only reason I went ahead with the order huh.gif .) And honestly, whatever gets picked it will be easy stuff, I promise!

I've sent an acknowledgement out to everybody whose form I've received. I'm some forms missing from people who I know are either wanting to accompany or wanting to take part in an ensemble. As it says on the concert web page, ensembles cannot be allocated a slot until forms have been received from *all* the participants in the group. The missing forms are also affecting the allocation of accompanists and the possibility of offering extra slots.

If you haven't received an acknowledgement and you're planning to come, can you please email me (not PM) to let me know if you've sent your form off and it's got lost, or whether you haven't yet sent your form.

If anyone has any queries, please feel free to email me (not PM).

Many thanks.

Skylark

Love the PJs that Bev has got for you, Skylark, but not sure about the socks ohmy.gif .

Thanks for the acknowledgement e-mail.

While Skylark is waiting to allocate slots, are there any other flutey people who would like me to organise a flute ensemble? unsure.gif (only if a slot becomes available, as it is not on anyone's form yet)

Any news on your piece that we are doing, Flossie?

Am planning to give you the final choice. smile.gif

Do you have (or have access to) the piano parts for any of the following:
Joachim Anderson: Five songs without words for flute and piano
Lennox Berkley: Sonatina for Treble Recorder and Piano (I think it's op.13, but my copy says OFB 1040)
Claude Debussy: The little shephard (A major) and Pour invoquer Pan, dieu du Vent d'Ete (both in three Pieces for Flute and Piano, pub. Pan Educational Music)
C.W. Gluck: Concerto in G major for flute and orchestra (piano reduction)
William Mathias: Sonatina for flute and piano
Mozart: Concerto no 2 in D
John Rutter: Suite Antique

Edit: Also - Gaubert: Madrigal

QUOTE(gedall40 @ Nov 23 2009, 12:26 PM) *

If by John Rutter: Suite Antique you mean the Prelude, then I am learning that right now to play for Bev's daughter Kate in December. Lovely piece. So not only do I have it, but I will have had plenty of time to prepare it biggrin.gif .

I am afraid I don't have any of the others, but am willing to have a go at anything not too fast, given that practice time will be a bit in short supply over the holiday period smile.gif

Um. I don't really know the Prelude. blush.gif I've played through it a couple of times, but I've never learnt it - just kind of sightread it through.

From the Suite Antique, I was thinking of either the Aria or the Rondeau. The latter isn't as fast as it looks because it's a quaver beat (it's written in 5/8). Have a look at the piano part and let me know what you think of these. They're in the same suite (same book) as the Prelude is in - movements 3 and 6. smile.gif

If you don't like the look of either movement I'll send some other possibilities your way from the list above. smile.gif

I was actually being hopeful when I did my form, and I put 'flute ensemble' down as one of my four slots! laugh.gif

Thanks for your patience everybody smile.gif

The good news is that there will be room for some more slots, and there's no bad news biggrin.gif

A flute ensemble will be lovely - thanks for offering to organise this, Gerald smile.gif

If anybody has any changes to their form, or wants to do another duet or ensemble, would you please send me an email so that I've got all the changes/additions in one place that I can quickly access. If anyone has asked for an accompanist, I should be able to confirm who will be accompanying by early next week.

It depends on how many parts we can have played. At the moment we have just three names, but I have music for three, four and six parts that I could provide (some examples to tempt you to join in smile.gif )

3 - Tchaikovsky "Danse des Mirlitons", Pachelbel "Canon"
4 - Grieg "Morning", Telemann "La Caccia"
5 or 6 - (anon) Londonderry Air

I will wait a couple of more days to see if anyone else wants to join us.

Thanks for offering to put this together Dawn smile.gif I've got a few quartets - I'll post what I've got in minute and you could either use those or your teacher's smile.gif

Edit. OK I've got...

4 Bb clarinets:
Moon River
Haydn's Divertimento in C
Largo from New World*
Borodin's Polovetzian Dance
Schubert's Deutsche Tanze and Schottische Tanze

3 Bb clarinets plus Bass (has anyone got a bass clarinet?)
Intemezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana
Prelude to La Traviata

If a clarinet duet wanted to look at doing the Duet from the Pearl Fishers, I've got that one.

And I've got 3 clarinet trios arranged from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker.

*Largo lasts 2.15 minutes - don't know how long the others last.

Thanks for the offer of the music Skylark. As I have no idea what my teacher has and even if it is on offer at all I'll accept your kind offer smile.gif but.. I have to plead ignorance blush.gif and say that none of them sounded familiar apart from Moon River. What standard are we looking at for top part? and are all parts of an equal standard or is there a range of abilities catered for???

So re the slot situation....

Can all these clarinettists take part?? Was Flossie mentioned in this list? I know she plays....

If so...Who would like to be part of this?

Moon River sound good???

or one of the others?

If you post or PM me with regards to your interest I can liase with Skylark.

As for me organising it.... Well as far as I'm concerned it's a chamber group which makes us all equal parties. smile.gif

And or the record, I'm more than happy to play with players of whatever level - Please don't think "Dawn's a better player than me so I won't bother..." I'm more than happy to play with whoever's interested regardless of level reached - if appropriate music can be found. smile.gif

Edit: I lied! ph34r.gif I do know one or two of the others too - Largo and have heard of La Traviata though I can't say I know the piece.... smile.gif

OK, I will choose a piece for the flute ensemble that does not require emsoboe to play a part, but if she wants to join in then maybe she would like to double up on one of the other parts.

It seems Skylark has put her in the clarinet group, though..... unsure.gif

Edit: Just had an e-mail in from Skyers to say the following:

>Hi Gerald
> I'm in a bit of a rush and I'm out for most of the day, but just to
> confirm that anybody can play in whatever ensemble they want to play
> in (if there's a part for them obviously!) I would rather everybody
> played in everything and double up some parts if possible, than miss
> anybody out. Feel free to post this message if it helps but I can't
> go back on the board now - sorry for the rush but I have to go!!!

I may have confused her with my bit about emsoboe, but it seems clear to me that she and anyone else can play in one or more additional ensembles without having to change their original choices for their 4 slots.

So, notmusimum, I will choose a flute ensemble piece that does not depend on Em being in it, but she is welcome to join in when the time comes - OK? wacko.gif

I now have the piano part to Music Stand's sax piece, Skyers, so can scan it in and send it to anyone who's willing to play it!

Hi guys! wave.gif

Can anyone who wants to take part in the folk group please send me a PM with your email address in the next couple of days?

You don't have to have registered interest before. We've so far got a flute, a violin, either 1 or 2 singers and probably a piano. Could really do with a guitar, but more fiddles, flutes, maybe a clari would be very welcome.

I'd rather communicate via email though, please. smile.gif

Also - can those of you who I've said I'll do duets with please send me a PM to remind me of the details? I've been so busy with assignments and things that I've next to no idea what I'm meant to be doing, and I need to get this all sorted before I go back to Scotland on the 23rd. wacko.gif

If people email me with what other duets/ensembles they want to take part in, I'll see what I can fit in. Please bear in mind the rehearsal time on the day, and the fact that everybody has to fit in rehearsals with their other duet/ensemble/accompanying partners as well - a morning's rehearsal sounds like a long time, but it flies by and it's always tight!

I appreciate this Skylark smile.gif I'm hoping for something simple but effective to minimise the practise time everyone needs to put in. smile.gif

This is for the Flute Ensemble.

We are going to play "Morning" by Grieg. It is in four part harmony, starting in the key of G major (but there are one or two C# and D# so I hope that will be OK for everyone biggrin.gif ). All parts are of equal importance, so they all get a chance to play a part of the main melody, and to play accompaniment notes, with Flute 1 generally the higher notes, and down to Flute 4 on the lower notes. But none are higher than top register E or lower than bottom D. As written it is not particularly difficult but it has none of the ornaments that are in the original so you are all free to add them when your turn comes to take the solo melody tongue.gif .

Unless anyone has a better idea, I propose to allocate the parts as follows:

Flute 1 - Flossie
Flute 2 - Babybird2
Flute 3 - Nova and me
Flute 4 - Celeste, and Emsoboe if she would like to join us. This will make a bit stronger the quieter low notes and I will make sure I can switch to this part if Em doesn't play and we decide that it would be better for the sound of the group.

I have an e-mail address for everyone except Celeste, so if she could please PM me with one I can use to send the part, then I will get them e-mailed to everyone in a printable form. If anyone would rather have a full score than just the one page part, that can be done too (3 pages). Please PM me.

The piece lasts two and a half minutes when taken at a steady pace ("Andante tranquillo") and we fluteys are going to show the claris how well we can play! laugh.gif

The piece lasts two and a half minutes when taken at a steady pace ("Andante tranquillo") and we fluteys are going to show the claris how well we can play! laugh.gif

Please could I have both the part I'm playing and the full score. smile.gif I like to be able to see how they fit together.

I wondered if Flossie would like to do the violin duet we were going to do? Let me know if you would like to and I will sort out some music.

I'm happy either way. smile.gif I'm being brave and doing a violin solo - it seemed like a sensible idea when I did my form. eek.gif

If you would like to do a duet then I'm happy to, but I'm equally happy to wait until next time. If we do a duet this time it would need to be something that can be put together really easily on the day, because I think practice time for the morning is starting to get tight for me. smile.gif
