It was in the papers recently that the average Londoner carries around £3,000 worth of stuffs everyday

which generally include a laptop, an iPhone, a blackberry, a handheld console, an mp3 player, etc. So I'm just wondering what you have in your bag...
In my handbag I normally have a purse, a bunch of keys, a mobile, a blackberry, a diary, a flash drive, a pen, a small umbrella, a book (currently La macanique du coeur), a bottle of water, some sort of snack (today's a Kitkat), some tissue papers, hand cream, and Vaseline. Now that I listed them all out, it seems I do carry around quite a lot

In my rucksack I usually have:
Music theory book(s)
Whatever novel I'm reading at the time
RSA tokens/cabinet keys
iPod + charger lead
Very occasionally, work laptop.
So a grand total of not much money's worth.
I keep my phone/wallet in my pocket at all times - I find it shocking that so many women keep their purse/wallet in their bag - you're stuffed if it gets pilfered!

currently: wallet, phone + handsfree, notepad, pen, passport, tobacco and papers, lighter, electronic tuner, 3 picks and a set of banjo strings. fairly sure that's not worth £3'000...

We've got nowhere else to put them - a lot of smart trousers and most skirts don't have pockets!
In my rucksack I have....
1.5L bottle of water
big lunchbox full of food
maybe iPod and phone (though they're usually in some sort of pocket, somewhere...)
2 USB sticks
some sweets that have probably been there for 3 years
teaspoons
a hairbrush
probably about 3 pens, none of which work
scraps of paper
notebook
diary
cosmetic stuff...
keys
handgel
lip balm
very tatty chequebook (needed at uni for sending cheques for forum events)
uni ID card
sticky labels from York Playday
That's my uni rucksack anyway...

I've been putting my phone in the same pocket as my wallet for years and have never had a problem at all

I know that in theory the speaker should cause havoc with the strip, but I thought that the magnetic strip was pretty much redundant these days seeing as the smart chip is used for pretty much everything?

Antibiotics, analgesics, a beta 2 agonist, diuretics, nitrate spray, aspirin, naloxone, glucose, diagnostic set, tourniquet, sphygmomanometer, formulary, letterhead, collapsible mask, latex free gloves, needles, syringes, sample tubes, cotton wool, micropore tape, tweezers, personal attack alarm, mediswabs, bits of several biros, hopefully some functional, a box for sharp waste, and a fluorescent orange stethoscope so I don't put it down and then forget to take it back with me. Quite possibly still not worth three grand, even with the items I've no doubt forgotten. Still, it gets locked and doubles as a seat when on call, and also as a a shield against unpleasant canines.
Handbags are a bugbear - generally I'd only have one on the go, and its only regular fixtures would be mobile, wallet and keys, plus or minus the odd receipt, hanky or specs cloth, and maybe a pencil. I prefer not to have to use one though - don't have time or inclination to do the outfit-matching stuff, and clobber like sandwiches and laptop are better carried in a rucksack.

Handbag : this years and last years diaries, umbrella, apple, keys, make-up bag, phone, purse, gloves, handcream, Recue remedy pastilles, hair clip, calculator, aspirins and dental gum.
Tote bag (for the overspill): Harmony in Practice, Mastering the Art of Performance, pencil case, AB Guide to Music Theory, body spray, hand gel, bottle of water, fork, Church Music Quarterly, various printouts for work and a note book. Loose pencils.
Maybe I should clear it out a bit.

Handbag is in three sections:
section 1:
2009 diary
2010 diary
A 'turtle' bag (an expandable string bag)
Mini-maglite torch
section 2:
Wallet
House keys
Car keys
Phone
Work ID card
section 3:
Pen
Paracetamol
Migraine tablets
Plastic carrier bag
Pack of tissues
If I'm cycling then the only difference is no car keys; if it's the weekend, then no car keys and no ID card!
Of course, today I am also carrying three recorders in a recorder bag, but they're not worth £3000.
I'll also be taking my work laptop home tonight, but I don't normally do that. And I'm sure it's only worth about fourpence.
Did they include things like jewellery in this total? I'm just thinking that a corker of an engagement ring might get some up to the right level

Not worth £3000.
Many years ago I was mugged and had my handbag stolen. Some time later it was handed in to the police. It still contained my keys, credit card and a silver fountain pen. All that was missing was a red biro and 35p change (my bus fare).

My reply had been made on the basis that anyone taking all the drugs in my bag would feel ill- therefore, taking it through the homœopathic "logic" and diluting all together, it'd make one feel better

In Holland the ATMs and the Swipe-machines in most shops still use the magnetic stripe - not the chip. But if your card is in your wallet it probably has enough protection. It is if you are travelling light with an unprotected card incontact with the electronic device that there can be a problem.

Bag contains:
My freebie purse/wallet from my old job, for cash.
My nice purse, for ex-uni ID card (I know it should have been given back, but is still in date, so can be used as ID) my cash card, and my ex-uni library special loans card (again, probably shouldn't still be in my purse)
Glasses in case,
'Phone,
Two propeller pencils and one black biro,
And Strepsils, from when I had a cold a few weeks ago!
My "handbag" doesn't go with me often though, as most things I do have their own bags...
For instance, I have a "tutorial bag" which has stuff for my OU tutorials (lined paper, graph paper, plain paper, calculator...), and an "orchestra bag", and a "church bag"!
Stops me having to move things in and out of bags. Only things that move from one bag to another are the glasses and 'phone, as all those bags have pencils, pens and water bottles in them.
I used to have two of exactly the same bag, but with different contents. That didn't work, as I invariably picked up the wrong one, and took music to maths things and vice versa!
