Full Version: Music Symbols On Word

When writing up notes, planning, records etc I often want to use the symbol for natural amongst others but don't know how to find it on 'word' or if it is possible to find it. Maybe do it some other way? For sharp it is easy to use the # key and for flat the letter b.

What do others do for the natural sign or do you just always write it out in full?

Thanks.

Not sure if this will work on your system, but if you have the Arial Unicode MS font available in your system, then go to Insert > Symbol.

In the screen that appears, select the subset "Miscellaneous Symbols", and then scroll down a little. After all the astrological signs, chess pieces, and card suits, you should see a crotchet, quaver, beamed pair of quavers, beamed pair of semiquavers, and then flat, natural and sharp symbols.

Hope this helps!

If you don't want to mess about installing extra fonts, you can get the three symbols you want quickly and easily like this:

Flat symbol - type 266d and press Alt-X
Natural symbol - type 266e and press Alt-X
Sharp note - type 266f and press Alt-X

If you want to know how and why this works, read up about Unicode representation of characters and symbols.

It doesn't work for me, every time I use Alt-X I get the sigma symbol. It's possible I assigned it as a shortcut key at some point when I was writing a document with lots of calculations in.

Or you could use OpenOffice instead of Word which comes with font Emmentaler with all kinds of musical symbols.

Brilliant. (I have a really old keyboard and version of Word so the 266 way didn't work but this does - thanks).

I can't get it to work at all. I type in 266d, for example and if I do AltX nothing happens.
Please can anyone help? MT? I would find it very useful to be able to use as the symbols I have are never the same size as the font so the text gets messed up.
