Hi Everyone,

Just letting you know that I've started a group on facebook for applicants for 2010. I really wish I'd named it vocal instead of soprano but what's done is done. I don't mind if other voices want to join tbh.

Anyway, the group is basically to help each other through the application process and to make new friends etc etc.

THe group is called "Soprano applicants for 2010 Conservatoire entry" so if you just apply to join I'll let you in smile.gif

Good luck on applications everyone

Good luck with your auditions! I'm also auditioning as a soprano.
What will you be singing, and where are you auditioning?
E Stowe
I'm singing:

Les Filles de Cadix - Leo Delibes
Be Kind and Courteous - Britten
Deh Vieni Non Tardar - Mozart

I've applied to the Royal College, Northern, Welsh and Scottish as well as Trinity.

Had the Welsh audition today wacko.gif

Yourself?
Possum18
Very nice! How did it go today? Hope it went well. smile.gif

I'm singing Gretchen am Spinnrade - Schubert
Donde Lieta - Puccini
Quia respexit - Bach

I'm auditioning at RCM, RAM and the Guildhall. I nearly had to do two in one day but thankfully managed to get it changed. Have you had any consultation lessons or anything? Have you auditioned before?
E Stowe
Yeah I applied before.

It was really stupid of me - I didn't have a teacher so I was really doing it on the off-chance that I was good enough as I was! Still I got a reserve placement at the royal welsh so that wasn't bad considering!

My teacher is really confident for me for this year so fingers crossed.

Do you live near London then? The closest one to me is the Royal Welsh (I'm from the south-west) and it's really nice there but I don't know whether to go there or not. I mean, everyone says it's not the highest standard however I know a lot of post-graduates from there who have gone on to MAs in London as well as understudying in London and getting into the WNO (all of these straight out fromstudying there) so I honestly don't know.

Have you applied before? Which one are you hoping to go to?

I have applied twice before. First time when I was seventeen, which I know now was far too young, and I got a reserve at the welsh and offered a foundation year at Trinity. Last year I got a reserve at the Northern and a place at Birmingham but decided not to go.

Yeah I live in London. To be honest I'd go to any of them, but what I really want is to find a teacher who is right for me.

I'm not sure about the Welsh. I personally didn't feel it was the place for
me, but I think that as long as you find the right teacher the conservatoire doesn't matter so
much. But obviously you want to be somewhere that you love.

When I started the application I was like "Londonlondonlondon... I want to go to LONDONNNNN!" but now I'm having 2nd thoughts. I think you gain a feel for the colleges when u apply and i think a few people sort of think "this feels like home" and then that's decided.

Of course this is all hypathetical... it will depend on offers.

My teacher has a very lovely soprano voice and she was taught there as a grad student however i think she went to london before... i should probably find that out! She recommends London however I live in a village in the middle of nowhere and I wonder if it will be too much of a culture shock.

So (assuming you get in) would you move into halls or stay in your current residence?
Possum18
Yes, I was always focused on London too. I would have loved to have gone to the Northern this year though, if I'd gotten a proper place.

I'm also from the middle of nowhere! Not even a village, literally just the middle of the countryside! It might well be a culture shock for you, but I love London. I live here with my boyfriend who is also a singer, so if I got a place, I would stay where I am rather than go into halls.

I used to be dead set on the Academy, and I've been for a few lessons there but they hardly have anyplaces, so
I'm more hopeful about the Guildhall I think.

What have you been doing in your year
out?
E Stowe
Working, teaching a bit.

Atm I don't have time for performance opportunities, might do some later in the year.

What about you?
Possum18
Working, singing in choirs and at churches, and having coachings and lessons. Also trying to stop myself getting colds!

I really hope you get a place where you want! Good luck!
E Stowe
you too hun! Keep me posted smile.gif
