Hi everyone wave.gif

Got some sad news to report I'm afraid...

My cat Simba has been very ill during the past couple of weeks - he's been suffering from a loss of appetite, and therefore has hardly been eating or drinking.

We took him to the vet last Tuesday to get him checked up as he was getting quite anaemic, and they gave him a couple of injections and took a couple of blood samples. They found that the blood pressure level in his kidneys were verging on low - nothing too dramatic, but signs that something was not quite right. We took him back home that day, but he did not eat or drink anything at all since he came back, so we had to take him back to the vet on Thursday, earlier than initially planned. They decided to keep him there for the night and put him on a drip, which helped to bring his kidney blood pressure level back into the 'normal' category.

On Friday, he came back home, but from then on he went back to refusing mainly food, but he did drink quite a bit initially. The vet also gave us tablets for him to take, but they didn't seem to make any real impact. His breathing got worse as well and he got quite anaemic again as a result of not eating anything, so we had to take him back on Monday and they kept him in overnight and during Tuesday as well.

Unfortunately, his condition has just got worse, and he's had to be put down. To think 3 weeks ago he was fit, healthy and perfectly normal, and now he's gone sad.gif

He was only 7 as well, which makes it even more depressing sad.gif

Sorry to read this sad.gif

I can still remember when my first cat had to be put down. She was 16 already, but it was still awful, and it makes me teary to this very day ...

Oh that IS sad. Poor wee puss. Think of him in Cat-Heaven now frisking about - I hope he's met P.oo-Cat and all my other special kitties no longer with me.

Hugs - non-pet owners do NOT understand the sense of loss etc.

I am so sorry to hear about your cat, I know how you must be feeling.

Jazzycat, thankyou so much for the link, my cat had to be put down a fortnight ago after a long battle with skin cancer I have just read out the Rainbow Bridge to my daughters and they loved the idea, it's really helped.

I remember when my dad rented my aunts house for a year she left her 2 cats for him to look after.

One died of old age about 2 weeks before we were due to leave, aged 16.

The other had to be put down about as month after m dad moved out because she got an infection in her leg.

Quite sad really.

Oh, CE. sad.gif I'm so very sorry. My beloved bunny died just over 2 years ago now, and I still very vividly remember how awful it felt. *hugs* xx

Huge sympathy. sad.gif One of our two cats was hit by a car a few weeks ago, and died later the same evening (we took him to the vet and thought he might pull through, but he suddenly got worse when we were taking him through to the veterinary hospital our vet had referred him to). He was only 4; I felt terrible for days and days afterwards.

Really sorry to hear this - it's always extremely difficult losing a pet. thereThere.gif

Aww, CE, that's so sad. It sounds the same problem that my lovely Bronte (aka the Grub-Filled Fattypuss) had - he was only 8 and went downhill very quickly too.

Hugs to you and everyone who's lost a cat or other pet recently (aw, Floss, I remember when you lost Hamish sad.gif ).

CE very sorry to hear your news sad.gif

Back in March I lost my lovely ginger cat 'Bailey' to multiple organ failure liver, kidneys, heart.... we had had him as a kitten and he was 12 when he died

then about 6 weeks ago, out of the blue our 2 year old black/white puss 'Molly' was run over, horrible experience picking her up off the road, her head was hit and at least she would not of known what hit

then 10 days ago the guinea pig (2 years old) stopped eating, 3 trips to the vet, antibiotics and lots of coaxing with titbits were to no avail and he died

......at least no one can take my music away sad.gif sad.gif

Feeling better now, but still trying to get over the shock of him dying at such a young age. There was nothing much anyone could do really...

Car Expert,

Sorry - just seen your message.

Sincere condolences to you and you family. Losing a treasured family pet is an awful thing.

It's a complete Catch 22, the only person who can possibly make you feel better is the very thing you can't be with.

When we lost our darling Fluff last year everyone was really kind to us, Hope everyone is being sympathetic to you.

Someone sent me a poem which went along the lines of:-

"when your pet dies, your heart breaks
then another animal comes along and mends the broken part
Ultimately your heart will be completely broken, but pieced together by the mended parts"

I didn't realise the complete significance of it at the time, but do now. I hope that at some stage, you will find another kitty that needs you to look after them.

Kindest Regards,
Chin up,

Best wishes,

Nigel
