Isn't it a coincidence. My exam is approaching (Friday) and my flute broke just a couple of weeks ago. The delivery for the repair material takes an iternity. And it certainly will not arrive in time. So, now I have to play on a cheap cheaper cheapest China flute which has its issues and my very windy, air venting Yamaha 511. Both flutes aren't that certain to produce the sounds they should. Well, at least I will soon have three and then something flutes to go to exams with. Maybe I will be lucky next time! Has anyone of you ever tried to do them with a Meyer system flute? That would be number four in case the other three would in future be broken before the exam.

But my pieces are actually sounding great. My pianist is a genius anyhow. And all other things are prepared. So all should go well. I am terrible at the aurals. Is actually anyone of you good in those. I just seem to have lost my voice each time, and where there should be a tone it is about some semitones out of pitch. Absolutely odd.

That doesn't sound ideal. I do know two flute technicians, both recommended by my teacher if you would like the details. Other than that, can you borrow or hire a working flute for a few days? I'm racking my brains to think of someone who might not be using theirs.

You know you can hum for the aurals if a singing note won't come out?

Best of luck.

Thanks, flutecake, for the very nice thought. I know all flutemakers in Munich, as I applied by I think each of them for an apprenticeship. Since then, I learned to do it myself. However, the material is the problem and even if I could find someone, that someone couldn't fix it in time. Exam is tomorrow and replacing pads takes time. Especially those in the lower range.

My fluteplaying friend wanted to lend me hers, but I never played with open holes before, so, the air was venting again, but this time due to my lack of experience. I guess, for tomorrow it will have to do. But this years exam seems to be out of luck somewhat. First this horrific theory exam, now this.

Ah, now if you know how to mend flutes yourself, I may want to ask your advice (not at this stressful time, though) about getting my old beginner flute into some sort of playing order.

Anyway, for today I wish you luck, I am sure your playing will overcome a windy flute.
