I'm going to London next Wednesday for a 'me' day smile.gif

Can anyone recommend any good music shops (esp. woodwind) that I can get to with a travelcard?

Thanks!

Don't know if this helps but there are loads of London music shops listed in the first post of this thread:

Favourite Music Shops

If anybody knows of any changes that have happened since the the list was compiled, I'll amend the list if you post the amendment needed.

Rather surprisingly, the top floor of Foyles has a reasonable collection of sheet music! So if you fancy browsing round a bookshop and then looking at music again, you could try there. It's on Charing Cross Road (with a lot of other bookshops! happy.gif ) and the nearest Tube station is probably Tottenham Court Road.

Chappells is my favourite, Wardour Street, just down a bit off south side of Oxford Street

There are two really good flute shops in London. Firstly, there's All Flutes Plus, which is in Warren Street, then there's Top Wind, which is south of the river, in Lower Marsh (Lambeth North tube). Both are excellent flute shops, and both have extensive sheet music collections.

Then, there's Howarth's, in Chiltern Street (Baker Street tube), for all things clarinet, oboe and sax. Talking of saxophone, there's now a branch of sax.co.uk in Denmark Street (Tottenham Court Road tube), which has an awful lot of temptation within its four walls. There's also an excellent branch of Musicroom (Argents) in Denmark Street, and Foyles is very close by. Not only that, on Monday, the Early Music Shop moved to Denmark Street, yet more temptation!

Fsharpminor has already mentioned Chappells, this is walkable from Denmark Street. Excellent for sheet music, for instruments though, it's pretty much 100% Yamaha.

One final suggestion : a real gem is Travis and Emery. They're just off Charing Cross Road, in Cecil Court (Leicester Square tube), and they specialise in antique and out of print sheet music, as well as old concert programmes and magazines. You can easily spend ages in there!

Enjoy your day in London Sianie9! smile.gif

Also, for sheet music, Chimes is brilliant. I think they've got 3 branches but I've only been to the one in South Ken. It's great. I find music there that I haven't been able to get anywhere else!
