Full Version: Venue For A New Choir

Cyrilla
A colleague of mine is setting up a new choir in 2010 and we are looking for a venue - so far without success.

It needs to be somewhere central-ish London, easily accessible by public transport and also with parking facilities - and not too expensive!

We would need it on a Sunday afternoon once a month (probably for roughly 2-5pm).

If anyone knows of a school or church - or other type of building - that may be suitable, please could you post it here or send me a PM?

I'd be most grateful - thank you!

Hi Cyrilla

Sorry to see there are no replies to this yet - just bumping it to the top of the list for you (hope that's not against the rules!).

Glad to hear the choir plan is still going ahead!

There's the Salvation Army building on Oxford Street (Google gives me 275 Oxford St, London, W1C 2DJ
020 7629 2766) which has a hall and is the same format as most Methodist places, with a stage and an altar and a pulpit, I think. A choir that my husband used to sing in rehearsed there once on a Saturday afternoon before a concert.

Another idea: you could look at British Choirs on the Net http://www.choirs.org.uk/home.htm and see when and where some/any/all of the London-based ones rehearse - that might give you an idea for some suitable venues and also when they're not available! (There might be one lot that rehearse on the first Sunday of the month somewhere...)

I'm not sure how many places in central London actually have their own parking facilities though! unsure.gif

This is where the East London Clarinet Choir is holding their woodwind playday, and is very nice, and has excellent public transport links. The last time I looked at their piano, it was in good shape. Unfortunately, it falls down a bit on parking facilities sad.gif : there are some side streets with meters, and some highly expensive car parks, but little else...

Having said that, it's a very nice place, and the cafe is excellent and cheap biggrin.gif

We have a department in my company that lets out space in Haverstock School (which is near Camden) for community use.

I don't know what kind of spaces they have that would be suitable for a choir, or if they have a piano but I assume they still do in schools nowadays. Let me know if you'd like more details.
