Just got a txt from teach and I passed my Gr5 clari. 125 so a merit.

Really really pleased as 3 weeks ago it was touch and go whether I'd even pass

Just my piano to go tomorrow now

Thank-You all

However let us never speak of Grade 3 piano again sad.gif

Messed up scales, pieces and sight reading.

I don't know what my rendition of Study in F was but it certainly wasn't anything like was written in the score biggrin.gif Started my Attwood with confidence but soon came to realise I'd began much too fast to my fingers horrible realisation about 10 bars in!! My best piece was the Kershaw which I'd never managed to play all the way through without disaster striking up until the exam.

I'm sure it'll be alright though...............

thereThere.gif It's so frustrating when after all the practising you feel things haven't gone well on the day. I expect you'll have a better mark than you think though, as it's so natural to notice all the things that went wrong, but to gloss over all the things you did well.

I hope you're patting yourself on the back tonight for attempting two exams in the one session. Onwards and upwards, as they say!

Just seen this thread Lois. Congratulations on getting a good merit for your Clari exam hurrah.gif and hoping you do better than you think in the piano.

Keep up the good work and see you at RNCM in January!

clap.gif Well done! smile.gif Which pieces did you play? I'm doing G5 next session... and I'm terrified about the aurals, and my pieces!

The aurals aren't too bad. Even the sight singing was reasonable and I don't have the best voice in the world. I used a mix of ummmm and lahhhhhh I think and got 18/21. Just make sure you get plenty of practice well before the exam would be my advice.

I played the Schumann from list A, Turkey in the Straw from list B and Demnitz study in D min (wub.gif My teach was visibly mortified when 4 weeks before the exam I announced this is the study I'm doing now). Don't worry too much just go in there and try and enjoy it. I always focus on the things I do wrong and forget about everything I've done right smile.gif A particular feature of the adult learner I think!

My nerves weren't too bad and I got better the more the exam went on (which was reflected in the marks)Unlike in my piano exam where my hands were visibly shaking!! Don't know what it is, shove a clari in my gob and I'm fine, sit me in front of a piano and I'm a quivering mess biggrin.gif

Interesting point! My sax / piano teacher made a comment to me a while back that he always feels (and felt in exams) more confident with the sax than piano, because there was something about the fact you could grasp the sax with both hands and hang onto it which gave him a greater sense of security, unlike with the piano. smile.gif

Well done on the clari and best of luck for the result of your piano biggrin.gif

smile.gif All different pieces to me, Lois! I've chosen the Mendelssohn, Gut Reaction (alternative piece - Paul Harris) and Scaredy Cat. I do have a copy of the Schumann but I don't think I can make it sound as good as the Frühlingslied.

The one good thing - I can do scales and, as I can sight transpose, it follows that I can sight read. (I don't do a lot of SR practice, so don't really know what I'm capable of!) wacko.gif

I thought sight singing came in at Grade 6 - or was this just a few notes, rather than a tune? I seem to recall something like that in G5 piano. unsure.gif

I like the Scaredy cat. When I got frustrated with Turkey I'd have a bit of a bash at this one as it is on the opposite page of the book smile.gif

How are you getting on with the gliss at the end. I could never manage it properly but I'm hoping that's because I wasn't really practising the piece in earnest biggrin.gif

Well. laugh.gif
It's all right - sort of half a gliss. tongue.gif I don't get that many notes in! My teacher has had me working on what I call 'backwards jazz rhythms'. Still playingIPB ImageIPB Image triplet rhythm (I hope that worked lol) but with the accent on the 'quaver' bit (second).

Did that make sense? tongue.gif Anyway, I'm finding it very difficult, but she insists that it'll sound much better!
