Full Version: I Pass The Guitar Exam ;)

Hoii ... I'm so pleased that I passed this DipABRSM (classical guitar) exam; although only with a 'pass' tongue.gif (61%) wink.gif ... while distinction would require a total of 7% ... that 9% different is like 15% difference (9/16). And yes, I still blame it on that stupid caffeine-attack, since I took too much coffee before the exam.

Recital is 27/60 (24 is required to pass), VivaVoce 22/25 (10 required) & Sight Reading 12/15 (6 required); total mark is 61%. Apparently the caffeine-attack made me so noticeably much chattier tongue.gif

Anyway, given my disposition that is a busy full-time worker with so many time-consuming girlfriend-maintenance things going on, and even two weeks before the exam (as I wrote here) I still hadn't written a word for the VivaVoce ... then I'm quite pleased with my result wink.gif

My recital had many glitches due to the coffee. I read in here some candidates also fear this for whatever reason there is. So, do practice performing and if you make a mistake or whatever, go on playing. Don't stop, and just NEVER stop! As for me, I''m aging smile.gif, so I already had plenty of concert and recital experience before I got this title wink.gif. So, don't fear mistakes or glitches. Keep musically going!

Before, somewhere in here some guitarists disagreed with playing our own transcription. Guess what, 6 pieces that I played (3 Bach & 3 Scarlatti) were my own transcription! But sure I defended that powerfully in the VivaVoce!

----------------

Now, I'm preparing for the LRSM. Maybe I'll take it in 2 years. I've promised myself I'll learn something new and give a quality performance that doesn't just recycle pieces that I have played for ages. Here is my candidate pieces, give me your opinion please:

Bach, BWV 998, Prelude, Fugue and Allegro
Bach, BWV 883, French Suite no. 2 (own transcription & personal choice)
Aguado, Rondo in A minor: no.2 from ‘3 Rondo Brillanti’, Op.2 (Suvini Zerboni/M.D.S.) --8.5"
Diabelli, Sonata in A, arr. Bream: complete.
Sor, Introduction & Variations on a Theme of Mozart, Op.9 (Suvini Zerboni/M.D.S.)
Brouwer, El Decameron Negro (Transatlantiques/U.M.P.)
Tansman, Variations on a Theme of Scriabin (Eschig/U.M.P.)
Moreno-Torroba, Sonatina in A (Columbia Music 168/M.D.S.)
Turina, Fandanguillo, Op.36 (Schott GA 102/M.D.S.)

I need to choose 5 of them. Share your opinion please wink.gif

Congratulations!!!

I love that you are blaming the coffee - I was holding mine in a cast iron grip, they had to make me put it down in order to enter the exam room!

Well done, and have fun choosing the next set of pieces smile.gif
