hi everyone!
my school choir had a concert this evening and we were joined by the parent faculty choir for most of the pieces. unfortunately, there was a woman standing next to me who sang the wrong notes completely off pitch all the way through the concert! that was so annoying

and it completely spoilt the concert for me!!! I don't want to sound as if I always sing the right notes, but this was totally out of proportion. has anyone else had this experience? it's not only annoying but also extremely frustrating because you can't tell the person to shut up and we had such lovely pieces, too!
best wishes,
charlotte

this happens to me all the time.... i get even far more annoyed with people...having already achieved grade 8 singing.... sometimes i'm quite demanding... hoping everyone to be the same.... but i know that it won't happen in my choir.... so i just expect them to sing the right notes.... with a sense of understanding and at the right time.... but there's always odd ones who can't do that.... and they start singing at the top of the their voices...

Quite difficult for inexperienced singers. Me for example.

Noooo..... Some of us prefer to keep quiet. Until of course the choir director notices and makes us sing our part alone so he can hear. *hides in a corner*

I sit next to some one in my church choir who is always a split second behind me. She never has the right music and waits for me to sing, and then follows! That is really annoying.

I agree! That would make me angry too, Katet. I had to share my music with someone who didn't seem to be able to read music or had never seen the piece before - I don't know which. Anyway, she always forgot to turn the pages (even though she was holding the folder) so I kept having to lean over and turn the pages! And there was also a kind of buzzing in my ear, because she was singing off pitch and the notes were really grating. It's soo hard to concentrate then!!! I'm glad I'm not the only person who finds this annoying!

I am reminded of several of the reasons that I gave up singing in large choirs. Unfortunately, singers who can hold a line by themselves can usually find someone with a better voice than mine to sing the baritone part

That is SO annoying!!! I totally understand, Charlotte. Concerts have been ruined for me too because of people singing wrong notes the whole time. I mean, I understand that some people like to sing but aren't exactly the best at it and I think that's fine. It's not so much the fact that the person sang badly, its that they did it so loudly! I think all singers in a choir, good, bad, and other wise, should be considerate of the ears of the people around them. (Not to mention the audience).

Just wanted to say that I'm not against people who aren't that good at singing but really enjoy singing in a choir!!! It's people who sing at the tops of their voices that are annoying!!!

I agree. I think its great for anyone to be in choir! But some people just sing too darn loud! Good and bad singers both.
