Hi all, I've read two ways that eth G Maj chord on the guitar is played ...
one is with little finger on the bottom string with finger on the 2nd string ... one is is just with finger on 1s string ...
which is the more "correct" way of playing it?

2nd string open is B. 3rd fret is D. Both belong in G major (3rd or 5th), so both are valid. Choose the one which sounds best to you or gives the easier fingering/chord change (depending on your priorities). There are of course more than 2 ways to play Gmaj. You could try a 1st finger bar on the 3rd fret then finger Emaj above that with 2, 3 and 4. Or loads of other options too.

I really like G Major with the D string.. It sounds brighter, but I guess it depends on the style of song you're going for and the type of sound you want.

You mean with the fretted D on the B string? I agree, this sounds better, chunkier to me - but as you advance, there are different contexts for each chord - it sometimes depends on what's coming next, and whether you want a spare finger for runs etc!
