I would see how your playing progresses in the next year or two. It would be a good idea to get as much performing experience in as you can too. At that point you will have more of an idea of whether you want to put in the work needed and also if you are performing to the required standard.

What do you plan for your musical future?

You need to consider whether you have the time to do it, and you also need to discuss with your teacher as to whether you're ready to do it. I have not started working for a diploma on any of my instruments... despite having grade 8 on three...
It's not essential to have a diploma for anything: most universities ask for Grade 8 standard or equivalent (you don't need an exam)... even if you want to study music (like me!!) you don't need to have a diploma. I don't have one, and I'm applying for music at Cambridge... and they haven't questioned it!! (probably won't get in though)
And good luck in your piano exam!!

I cast my vote on the basis that if you NEED to ask that question, then....
Hope you did well with the exam.

hello everyone! thanks so much for replying, and wishing me well in the exam! I did it yesterday and it went really well. The examiner (Ralph Stenner) was really nice, and he ONLY asked me easy scales, ones which I could DO and my pieces went fine. I messed up the aural but that doesn't really matter- I'm sure I'll be fine! Anyway, even if i don't pass, it's Inot the end of the world- I'll just retake it in March! yay I feel so FREE......... thankyou so much! love Stephie xxx 2 everyone! yay

Sounds great! Congrats. Sounds like a waste not to aim for a diploma now.

That depends on how good your gr 8 is. If it's distinction, it's alright to have diploma. But if you just got a pass, consider to practice for an extra year and get masterclasses with good teachers.
