How about that if you play 5 scales correctly you treat youself to a sweet, (not chocolate unless you can wait to eat it until you've finished else your mouthpiece will go sticky and it never comes off ph34r.gif ) but if you play one wrong you have to go back to the begining? biggrin.gif

Or some interesting pattern, becuase your name's blues babe i guess you like jazz. How about doing them sort of jazzy with dotted rythms, etc?

As for the principle euphonium if they hog the music again, just say you can't see it and could thy please move it over a bit? They can't exactly say no! smile.gif

Play the scales slowly and accurately, until the notes are really really under your fingers and you know where you're headed. Only speed them up when you can play them beautifully at a slow speed.

Write out all the scales you need on bits of paper or card and pick them randomly out of a hat to practice them - so you don't end up sticking to the easy ones. When you have a few under your belt, move those bits of card to a different container and practice one that you know and two that are harder, so you keep the easier ones in your head but the others get more practice.

Practice playing them as if they were beautiful pieces of music, with real style and flair.

Make yourself a chart with all the scales and which days you should play them, so you go through them all each week and none get left out.

Just a few ideas... HTH :-)

As I said in your other post, this subject, suck a lemon in front of him just as he starts his solo (if they have solos).

that is very very mean, but very very funny!!!!!!!!!!!

(i hope nobody does that to me in the violin solo in mary's boy child i'm playing at the school carol concert next week... although if they do, at least i'll be able to carry on, unlike the soprano, choir and the entire wind and brass sections of the orchestra!)
